We got down to 10 last night and it's 11 here now. But! The temp is now on it's way up and will be in the 40's by the end of the week. So, I guess that was Winter...brief and intense.
Merry Christmas puddle, Cat and Renee! We "attended" the Christmas Eve service via Zoom. But it was nice.
Both sons got their electric power back just after dark. So Root*Center*Son drove home to check on things and all was well there. =Whew!= Eldest just needed to turn off his generator and take life easier. So good.
Daughter and the two grands are still sick with flu. Day 6 of a fever for Youngest*Grand (age 3). They are having Christmas anyway, and that will help.
There is nothing about this season that we are taking for granted. But we are in the best company. After all, that first Christmas wasn't comfortable.
Our recent experiences of the Obama, Trump, Biden, and Zelenskiy administrations--and maybe a dash of Boris Johnson--- must add significantly to the interest of the series! ---Alan
Ah! For Christmas this year, I got Wil the entire series. We already had the First Season and it's in great shape. I'll send it down to you to replenish at least the first season. Some of the BEST writing, of course! 🥰. I have a second copy of the First Season as well. Would anyone else here like to have it?
Oh, no worries, Alan! I quite enjoyed it. After all, we have only 5.5" of snow at my house. Nothing like the 43" in Buffalo. We have had as much as 5ft in one storm before...one February more than a decade ago. I rather LIKE being snowed in! But I don't ever want that to happen at Christmas. People need to be together, and we've had way too much APART these last few years. A Sno-Kitten for everyone!
Actually...they got more than their wildest dreams. I am amazed to report that April Vacations will be rather stellar this year. One is going to NYC with her high school a cappella group. Three are going to Disney World. And two are headed to Europe (Vienna and Budapest)!
3PM here, and 50 deg. F, just back from our walk, no wind and the overcast has thinned bot not quite burnt off. Rain predicted starting tomorrow. Can't complain about any of that. The festive bird is about ready to come out of the oven, making way for the stuffing casserole. ----Alan
Which reminds me of something that I think has happened since I was young: although the stores stock plenty of turkeys for Thanksgiving, there are few for Christmas. There seem to be lots of hams, though. Is that a California thing? ----Alan
Turkey Facts - Turkey for Holidays - University of Illinois Extension 46 million turkeys are eaten each Thanksgiving, 22 million on Christmas and 19 million turkeys on Easter. But hereabouts I don't think the Xmas sales are not that high relative to TG. ---Alan
Merry Christmas everybody! I hope you all had a lovely, quiet day.
I slept very late so, rather than a meal, I just had cocoa and Christmas cookies. Worked just fine. :) Held me till Christmas dinner around 4:30. Excitingly, I've spent the past couple of hours looking at and clearing out my inbox. OTOH that activity did lead to my getting a writing credit correction and a set of lyrics posted to one of my YouTube videos, which is worthwhile.
Gotta fly. Busy, busy. Working on a quiz that really ought to be submitted ASAP, but it's only half done. See y'all tomorrow. /blowing kisses/
This post really made my day!! I love thinking of you busily creating a quiz and blowing us kisses with the greeting of seeing us tomorrow! Yes! This will be a good week, indeed! 🌺
This is the most impressive analysis of Putin’s War that I have read. Highly recommended. —Alan The revenge of history in Ukraine: year of war has shaken up world order [Click] “A shared sense of national history is proving to be a crucial weapon, spurring on Ukranian resistance and Russian soldiers.”
Although recent events on which this article focuses are very different, the long-term history of relations between Russia and Ukraine reminds me of those between England and Scotland. In both cases an independent nation was incorporated into a broader entity dominated by its neighbor without losing its sense of cultural and ultimately national identidy.

I seem to have somehow missed reading yesterday's thread. Don't know how that happened. But Happy Holidays and a great new year to all!
DeleteWatching West Wing. Really lousy disks, but I know the story, so skipping one or two at a time is not bothering me so much . . . .

Happy "We're Feeling Cautiously Optimistic That We Might Survive Winter" Day
ReplyDeleteThanks. That was a nice chuckle. Cautiously optomistic indeed.
DeleteIndeed! LOL. That really says it this year!!
