  1. With apologies for this late thread...

This is the most impressive analysis of Putin’s War that I have read. Highly recommended.

The revenge of history in Ukraine: year of war has shaken up world order [Click] “A shared sense of national history is proving to be a crucial weapon, spurring on Ukranian resistance and Russian soldiers.”

    2. Interesting list of those who took the Fifth before the Jan. 6 Committee. Thanks, Alan.

    3. My pleasure. Maybe I am naive, but the list was considerably more extensive than I had anticipated. In civil cases pleading the Fifth can be taken as evidence of guilt, as I understand.

  2. Government by the people has wide appeal. Rubber stamp elections not so much. "Democracy" is an unfortunate term. It's meaning is unclear. Remember the expression "it's all Greek to me"? I'm thinking we should refer to GBP. GBP vs. GOP.
The instinct-driven are linguistically more adept. Have to be. They rely on speech to get people to take care of them.
The mistake Trump made was believing "words will never hurt me." He's gonna find himself in a world of hurt because of words that came out of his own mouth.

  3. Beautiful photo, Listener. You should make that into a Christmas card for next year.

    2. Thanks. 🥰
      Maybe for thank you cards!
Our tradition is to try to send a beautiful "Mummy and Baby" (Madonna and Child) card, though sometimes have gone with Angels or even The Christmas Pageant as the theme. 💕

  4. I need to remember to check Audible to see if the Jan. 6 Committee's report is available. Seems to me the Muler Report was.

    2. It's out the Twenty-ninth. I've pre-ordered it. Reading time of eighteen hours. Well, that will be eighteen hours well spent. I've read longer books. Lonesome Dove was just over thirty-five hours, and I didn't lose track of who was who, etc. So, I'm not anticipating difficulty of that sort with the Jan. 6th Committee. The problem will be keeping my blood pressure and heartburn under control. /sigh/

    3. Hi Bill,

I'm currently on Facebook as Kerry Elizabeth, with no surname. A few weeks ago I tried to send you a friend request, but it may not have gone through.

If you look for me again, here's a description of my profile pic:
It's a selfie (closeup) of me wearing a red headband, tortoiseshell glasses and a blue mask with a picture of Engelbert on it. In the picture of him, he's wearing a red shirt. There's a frame around the profile pic which, I think, says something about combating Covid.

  5. listener— I was just reading about the Sudbury Impact Structure [Click] and it made me wonder if some of the ejecta might have reached your area; I have failed to find any information one way or the other. Given the shape of the basin, I suppose the majority of the ejecta might have been directed to the southwest. [Oh, and I found my new word of the day: “astrobleme!” It will probably be a while before I can work that into a conversation. . .

    1. Doubtful. The angle it came in on favours a debris field to the SW, as some was found in Minnesota.

    2. I saw one bit about the debris at one spot on Michigan's upper peninsula, 500 km from the crash site, where the ejecta are 40m (130 ft) deep.
