  1. Delusions of grandeur

Putin fancies himself like Peter the Great

So, basically, he’s admitting his designs on Ukraine and elsewhere is a big land grab.

    Glory to Ukraine! 🇺🇦

  3. Much of the Russian Federation is still backward land. The role of corrugated metal is sort of a puzzlement. In 1950s Chile it was used to provide rude shelter in the slum suburbs of Santiago. In the Russian Federation (and parts of Ukraine) it serves mainly as rude fencing to shield residences and gardens from the street. It's no wonder the personnel in the invading tanks got really frustrated by the attacks from behind those walls.
Walls serve so many purposes. In Iraq, the U.S. military constructed walls in an effort to segregate ethnic sub-groups. Here in the southland they proliferate to designate exclusive enclaves in which residents are persuaded to feel safe. So, we have an enterprise called "Exclusive Resorts" which invites short term renters from all over the world to enjoy a brief vacation with the beautiful people.

  4. A comment thread I was just now reading:

Who are the actual people who set the actual prices that we pay at the gas stations? I'm not talking about West Texas Crude futures markets.

    Joe Biden sets them.

    Oh right, thanks.

Yes, a big lever in the basement of the White House. Just a few steps away from the Baby Formula quantity and price levers, down the row from Toilet Paper, and Rock Concert ticket price levers.
Trump never went down there, last 30 feet are a steep ramp.
