    2. They will have to be brought to heel sooner or later, and sooner is better by far.

It is slightly off topic, but it seems to me that if the US Supreme Court overturns Roe vs. Wade it will be very strongly reminiscent of the Dred Scott decision---far too many people will be opposed.

  2. Idaho police near Pride event arrest Patriot Front extremists on [conspiracy to] riot charges [Click] I am a little surprised that only one of them was from Idaho. It’s a rather nice touch that the Chief of Police is named “White.”

  3. How San Francisco Became a Failed City— And how it could recover [Click] A very long read, but certainly an antidote to the popular press’s take on the recall of SF’s DA.

The more I reflect on it, the more I think we should deal with them in a way effectively similar to the way Julius Caesar dealt with the Cilician pirates. Let them enjoy their great power status as the Lithuanians and the Swedes do theirs.

  6. The first round of parliamentary elections in France have concluded, so we should have the results tomorrow. The left-wing alliance seems to be capable of giving Macron's loyalists a run for their money, in a low-turnout contest. I wonder if a close result in the first round might spur turnout in the second round.

    2. The Guardian: “President’s Ensemble alliance is projected to take 25.2% of the vote with Jean-Luc Mélenchon’s Nupes slightly ahead on 25.6%” [Click] The elections are first past the post in the second round, so the overall balance will be different from the results in individual contests.
