Thanks for the great links yesterday, Alan! I want to go back and check out those last few, when I can. Saturday was Eldest's 47th birthday, and we had the fun of having him and VT*Grand here for dinner, cake and ice cream and a showing of VT*Grand's recent play. Root*Center*Son came too. It made for a rather full day, so I didn't much get on computer. Sunday should be better for that.
I forgot to mention that today (still Saturday here) and yesterday the Air National Guard planes (F-15's) have been much more active than usual; some sort of practice, I suppose. Maybe jointly with others, such as from the nearby Naval Air Station. [Nearby if one is flying a fighter jet; by auto about an hour away.] --Alan
To some extent, this article conflates unretirement with working past "retirement age." As someone who worked for 18 years past age 65, I don't see them as the same thing.
Overturning Roe Would Be Just the Beginning [Click] “A self-assured right-wing majority may be ready to radically alter our legal system and destroy the public’s trust in the Supreme Court and the law.”
I am ambivalent. That the Constitution is restrictd to protecting property and promoting commerce while human and natural rights are ignored seems like a serious deficiency. Until one considers that rights extended--e.g. civil rights and property rights--are so easilu rescinded, one has to wonder what an amoral legal system is worth. The fight over fetal tissue is being wged on behalf of a paternal property claim for which the claimant has no evidence. But, harassing women has never gone out of style.
I attended by Zoom, today, the service at St. Barnabas, as they celebrated both Pentecost and the Feast of St. Barnabas, with Bishop Shannon McVeigh-Brown as celebrant. Due to Covid, it was her first time worshiping at St. B's since she was Consecrated several years ago. It was a lovely service, outside in the Labyrinth, complete with lots of wind. But what most spoke to me was the Bishop's response to a question someone posed just after the service. I couldn't hear the question, but she responded that someone who acts as a mediator is understood to not be neutral. You can't see each side equally when one side is being unjust. The God of Love does not come to the issues we face with impartiality. Love does not accept injustice, oppression, and exploitation.
As memory serves me, in the monarch's robing room, just off the Commons, the order (or a copy thereof) for the execution of Charles I is posted. ---Alan

Gosh, I just realised it's Pentecost. Renee, are you wearing red today?

Yes, and William is far worse.
DeleteCharles is far too self-focused. William has a greater sense of other people, at least. Harry would have been the better monarch.
DeleteWilliam has a vicious temper and he is lazy.
