Another shortage? Here’s what is happening to supply chains [Click] In re the tampon shortage being partly due to a manufacturer not being able to hire enough workers for its third shift, evidently it didn’t occur to the “experts” that people just might not want to work the worst shift when there are hiring signs out for day shift jobs in a lot of places.
Robert Reich: Is the US heading for a recession? Here’s what you need to know [Click] Slightly off topic, I have lately become more conscious of misleading business-related graphs. Some of the techniques are so old-fashioned that they hardly deserve notice, such as deleting the greatest part of the graph and making the labels so small they are barely legible. I think it was in the Wall Street Journal the other day that I saw a graph of stock prices that not only deleted most of the bottom part of the graph and made the labels very small, but used a logarithmic (!) vertical axis. Of course this obscured the huge recent gains in stock prices. I haven’t seen a print version of the WSJ for a long time, but I remember the old observation that their front-page graph always went up, no matter what.
P.S.: If I needed a new-to-me car under such circumstances, I think I would look at a classic car, say a stock Model A Ford or 1940 Plymouth. But that's just me; it wouldn't work for someone who drives their car hard.
The Democrats’ New Spokesman in the Culture Wars [Click] “The left desperately needs someone to stand up to Republicans’ rights rollback. Is Gavin Newsom up to the task?” Well, I would be better disposed to the Democratic Party if they paid some attention to my area, rather than helping to gerrymander into GOP-majority districts. Not that there is any danger of me voting for a Republican, but I do look for alternatives.
I read a NYT subscriber-only newsletter: "The Biggest Surprises of the Jan. 6 Hearings So Far," and not only did I find no surprises, I did not find a single surprise. Which was in my opinion not surprising.

ReplyDeleteYEAH! Like, how are we supposed to die happy or at least make "a good death" when they keep making it harder and harder to be happy or even good?
