  1. US could have saved 338,000 lives from Covid with universal healthcare, study finds [Click] Assuming, I suppose, that people would not refuse care and treatment for political reasons.

  2. The Real Villain in the Gentrification Story [Click] “It’s not young, upwardly mobile college grads” but NIMBY’s and zoning laws. Japanese cities don’t have zoning laws, and my observation is that they work pretty well.

    1. That is quite a story!

      From the article:
Her lawyers argue that no jail time is needed because, basically, hasn’t she suffered enough?
“This has been a long road for Dr. Gold and her family,” they write. “She is a single mother, and very proud of her two children. She will never get over the day she was arrested and incarcerated. She is now fearful of police. She has repeatedly been threatened on social media cites [sic] and news outlets. Her relationships with many friends and family are strained because of her actions. She lost her job and had to search for another one. Her ability to travel and do her job has been hampered by the fact that TSA put her on a no-fly list even BEFORE she pled guilty…Her personal character and reputation will forever be tarnished.”

  4. Long COVID Could Be a ‘Mass Deterioration Event’ [Click] “A tidal wave of chronic illness could leave millions of people incrementally worse off.” But there is little statistical evidence for it so far.

  6. "On CNN this morning, Representative Jamie Raskin (D-MD), a member of the House Select Committee to Investigate the January 6th Attack on the U.S. Capitol, said: “New evidence is breaking every single day now. Suddenly, a lot of people want to tell the truth.”

"After the committee’s third public hearing today, we can see why. The window for getting onto the good side of the investigation by cooperating with it is closing, and the story the congress members are laying out makes it clear that those sticking with Trump are quite likely in legal trouble.

"It appears that the former president thinks the same thing. Before today’s hearing, he wrote: “I DEMAND EQUAL TIME!!!”

"But it seems unlikely Trump wants to tell his version of what happened around January 6 under oath, and if he were misled by his advisors, who can doubt that he would already have thrown them under the bus? ... "

    1. Heck, we can give the former guy equal time with Jefferson Davis. [Click] How’s that?

    2. He can have all the prime time he wants, as long as it does it under oath.
