  2. Oh, yes!

Bill--My current insurance coverage will come to an end Sept. 1st, and although it will pay for an eye exam, it won't cover a new pair of glasses for several months. When I go on Medicare I will get a new supplemental to go with it, and can get a new pair of glasses immediately.

listener--I think the groom can still get through the wedding with a few stitches. Just let it out that the bride was having a special kind of conversation with him…[grin]

Garage door opener fixers coming out tomorrow afternoon; bad connection I couldn't fix.

My oncologist was well pleased with my status, and said it was time for a CT scan, so stop by radiology and set it up on my way out. They said "would you like to do that today?" I knew today was light at work, so said yes and we took care of it. The oncologist figures that the additional risk of the CT scan radiation is miniscule given my age, and the assurance that no rogue cells are at work is well worth it. [Or if they are at work, to deal with them quickly.] Seems to me I'm continuing to get first cabin treatment. He wants a couple of fasting blood sugars to rule out early stage Type II diabetes because he has noted an apparent correlation between low platelet counts (which are normal for me) and Type II diabetes. I don't expect that will be a problem--my platelet counts have been at the extreme lower end of the 95% normal range as long as I have been working in a medical lab (about 35 years). Also no family history, and as I recall my fasting blood sugars have been OK. But I appreciate the concern. Sorry to inflict this on you all, but I am really happy with the care I have had at Kaiser.

  3. Ah, Alan, I like the sound of "first cabin treatment." Hurrah for excellent medical care! It can happen!

As for the Bride...I would suggest no such thing, as I'm sure they are both feeling very tender right now about how they (both) will look on their wedding day, and this doesn't help to soften their feeling of vulnerability as the big day draws nigh. But it is good to have heard my son's voice and know that he has a good sense of humour about it. A mom-in-law mustn't assume anything with regard to her new D-I-L, though! ;-)

  4. Oh listener! Your poor son! That must have hurt like the very devil. What a bad wound to have on your wedding day .... aarrgh!, the pictures! I sure hope he physically feels better, though I imagine they can't both help feeling bummed out.

Yeah, I wish Howard Dean would take a do-over too.

  5. Oh, and Alan, I'm really happy to hear you're doing so well. That's a lovely thing to hear. (read?)

  6. listener, he'll be okay: two weeks healing time for a twenties is plenty of time. Makeup can take care of the residuals.

    Alan: DELIGHTED!!

Susan, hope the kitchen's made it all the way to spic N span.

Me? Another too warm day with no rain. Working on my attitude.

  7. Yes, two weeks and a touch of makeup should do just fine; and young 'uns in love might well not be inclined to jest about prenuptial negotiations. I was only indulging my sense of humor, such as it is.

Warm here, but not really hot; just a little over a hundred degrees.

Now I understand what you were saying about eyeglasses. I was thinking of Medicare rather than the supplement. Plus, I tend to think of a discount at a single provider as a marketing gimmick rather than insurance. And it doesn't apply to me, although my wife gets the discount.

  9. Well, we're about ten degrees over the predicted high, which wasn't that low. Glad I turned the AC on early. Ugh.

  10. The only thing worse than a too warm day without rain is a too warm day with rain, because it skyrockets the humidity level!

And of course it rained when I was picking up my silk dress for the wedding.

THAT was an experience, I can tell you. I called on Monday to ask if my dress was ready yet, as the seamstress had had it for nearly 3 weeks and it was only supposed to take her about two hours. She said she was going to be working on it this week and to call her after Wednesday. But then I got a VoiceMail on Wednesday saying it was done and she was taking it over to the bridal shop for me to pick up there. That made no sense to be because she hadn't been willing to meet me at the bridal shop for the fitting, since I didn't buy my dress there. Fair enough. So why send it over there now? It was really inconvenient too, because I was all ready to go over to the seamstress' shop, to maybe buy some other stuff she has. So I left a message there for her not to take it to the bridal shop. Today when I called to check on it, I was told it was over at the bridal shop. I asked how much it cost and instead of the $50 quoted I was told it was $80...!! I asked why but the clerk didn't know. I asked if it might be due to the cost of pressing the dress. The clerk said that the bridal shop does the pressing. She did, however, want my credit card number. Reluctantly I gave it.

So I got to the bridal shop and there was my dress, and the clerk there expected payment. I explained that I'd given my card number to the seamsrtess' clerk, so she called over there...but they'd already left for the day. Fortunately, the very professional clerk at the bridal shop took my word for it (this is Vermont) and gave me the dress. She wasn't sure why it was brought over to the bridal shop either, since it's not one of their dresses. I mentioned the pressing and she commented that my seamstress does her own pressing. ??!?

So I got the dress home and it appears to me that the dress was never pressed! I left VoiceMail on the seamstress' phone, and that you may tie to! Who needs this kind of foolishness 15 days before the wedding?!

  11. Alan...;-)

Over a hundred degrees?!!! I take it you have A/C!
Here there is no such device, so we kind of live in a sauna.

  12. Don't apologize, Alan. Good news is always worth hearing!

  13. Alan, perhaps my sense of humor is twisted, but I found your suggestion funny.

The last time I tried to post...yesterday?...my comments vanished when I hit Refresh. Do I take it the situation has been rectified and a tale of woe awaits my perusal on the last thread?

  14. Nothing much to say. All I know about today's weather is that it was cool in the morning and warm in the afternoon, threatening rain all day but never delivering. Right now, here in our garret, Vivie Kitty and I are hot. She's in the window, and the fan is sufficient. There's no need for AC, I just like to complain. :) I slept all day. Donno why, no obvious symptoms, just tired.

Yesterday afternoon and evening I read Edgar Rice Burroughs' The Cave Girl, a thrilling tale of how a pusillanimous ninety-pound weakling becomes a man under the influence of a good woman and the hearty outdoors life. The young lady of the title is no slouch either. 8)

    BTW we need Howard!

  15. Just learned that last Saturday while our family was all at the Family Reunion with Ally, our niece (Ally's Mommy's sister) and her husband were robbed! The thieves took a lot of stuff, including their passports and even their beloved dog's ashes. :-(

  16. Thanks, Susan. It's a good thing Son is a genius with PhotoShop. ;-)

  17. listener, I'm so sorry! Have the thieves been caught and the belongings recovered?

    ReplyDelete
  18. Thanks, Cat. ♥

No leads yet. I figure it's just a matter of time before they pull another heist and when their style is recognised they'll be caught for both robberies. I just hope the dog's ashes aren't tossed out. Maybe the perpetrators will be spooked by finding the ashes.

  19. It does indeed.

  20. BTW, that photo out front is a photo of Dean's Announcement of Candidacy on Church Street in Burlington. I was there that day.

Were he to Announce again, I'd be there again.

  21. May that day not be long in coming!!!
