Happy Birthday #2 ♥ ♥

Here is littlest Granddaughter with the Baby Kate doll we gave her for her birthday (along with books, of course.) Get a bucket, my heart is melting!

  2. She looks a LOT like her Daddy, but with bluer eyes and longer lashes. :-)

Her Daddy, though, left for Alaska yesterday and on her birthday will be arriving in ANWR. Today he had to take a four hour Bear Safety Course complete with instruction on how to shoot a gun...! They taught my child how to shoot a gun! He said the course was held on NRA Lane (literally!). Apparently the course is required because with the melting off of the ice, there is a serious bear density problem. This does not comfort me.

I am going to call sweet little Caelyn and sing her Happy Birthday in the morning.
So now I must get off to bed! Under the Wing, clinging close. ♥

  3. He said they also gave information and instruction designed to keep everyone alive, including the bears. So that's something anyway.

    4 c. flour
    2 c. sugar
    3 sticks butter (soften)
    1/2 tsp. cinnamon
    1/2 tsp. salt

Crust: Blend and put about 1/2 of mixture into the bottom of a 9x12 cake pan. Also up the sides. Bake at 375 degrees for 10 minutes.

    FILLING:

8 c. zucchini, peeled and sliced very thin
    2/3 c. lemon juice

Cook zucchini in lemon juice, uncovered, until tender, stirring occasionally.

Add: 1 tsp. cinnamon 1/2 tsp. nutmeg

Simmer for a while until the liquid slowly evaporates (not dry). Spread filling on your crust and sprinkle the remainder of the crust on top. Bake at 375 degrees for 30 minutes.

  7. Puddle, that reminds me: May I please steal your cucumber ice cream for the Writers Division holiday anthology? It would be great for the Fourth of July section.

If so, I don't know as Puddle River's Cucumber Ice Cream would go over too well. So, just in this one instance, would you object strenuously to being Aunt Julie?

  10. Today was not all that bad. It remains, however, that my body and soul is *longing* for a real rain. A whole day of rain. Inches of rain. Rain. Rain. Rain.

  12. Spent the day with dilated eyes. So weird. Had an eye exam this morning but the eyes stayed dilated for many hours and are still somewhat unevenly dilated. It's never lasted more than two hours for me before. So It was strange wearing sunglasses at work. On the plus side, my left eye went down a quarter step in prescription...!

Today the Library Director asked if I can work on the Wednesday before the wedding. I don't usually work Wednesdays and have the rest of the week off for Youngest's wedding. So I declined and said to ask me again if the other remaining coworker can't do it. I feel a little badly about having declined so quickly, though, because she filled in for me recently when I had to dash back to get my glasses fixed, and she was supposed to already be on vacation at that time. On the other hand, I asked for those days off many months ago, and the other two coworkers who want the same week off just now asked for it. I know what I did is fair. I still feel badly about it.

But I have to get the quilt done!! Two panels are completed and I'm working on quilting the third now. Gonna be hard to do tonight with these eyes still messed up.

  14. Oh my gosh, hers is such a sunshiney personality! I always think of the colour yellow for her. When we got to the ice cream shop to have her cupcake and some ice cream, she came over to me on the long bench we were sitting on and just leaned her head onto mine, with her sweet chubby arms around my neck. I closed my eyes for the joy of it, and when I later saw the photo my son had taken of that embrace, she had her eyes closed too. It melted me, I can tell you!!
