As for me, I’m voting for Biden. He has repaired a lot of our alliances that DT sought to destroy, understands how alliances work, understands what is needed to rebuild our nation and middle class and is a thoughtful person of moral and ethical stature. Basically, he’s a true statesman. Heather Cox Richardson’s latest post underscores part of this well. Pay close attention to what she writes about Mike Johnson.
I am inclined to vote for Biden too; but not yet completely decided. One can rest assured that whomever the national Democratic Party should nominate will win all of California's electoral votes; I am fond of saying that if the Dems were to nominate a rhinoceros, California would vote Rhinoceros. (Alas, Canada's Rhinoceros Party is no more; a damn shame, that.) ---Alan
Well, the transfer was made, and when he went to turn on the Win10, it wouldn't turn on, so he reset this one (Win7, clementine, Green Lantern). . . .he's taking the ten with him to turn over to a computer shop.
There are two ideas that continue to recur to me in connection with the current events in Palestine. The first is Hosea 8:7, For they have sown the wind, and they shall reap the whirlwind. The second is Bernard Lewis's observation that neither the current Israeli leadership nor the current Islamic leadership wants peace; both want victory. He argues that the founders of Israel were the product of Judeo-Christian civilization, while those currently in power are the product of Judeo-Islamic civilization. Those thoughts aren't helpful, but continue to nag at me. ----Alan
I am flattered. Bernard Lewis gained a reputation among those who knew little about him as a right-wing pundit, but he was extremely knowledgeable. He was, as memory serves me, the only foreigner granted access to the Ottoman archives by the Turkish government, because he could read and understand them. Modern Turkish is extremely different from that of the Ottoman officials and intelligentsia--almost a different language, developed at the direction of Mustafa Kemal [Attaturk] for communication with and control of the masses. Modern Turkish people are largely ignorant of their old, indeed ancient and very highly developed, literature and culture. Try to imagine how impoverished our culture would be if we couldn't understand anything written by educated people in English before 1920 or thereabouts. ---Alan
I have loved this day for nearly all of what I do remember. It was my parents' anniversary. They loved each other, respected and honored each other until they died, though she spent her last 33 years alone, waiting to rejoin him. And BTW, it'll always be Armistice Day to me.
LOL Alan. Ahem, yes, well, seeing as how Trump doesn't interact well with little people, one might suppose he's scared out of what mind he has, besides being very displeased.
Or maybe some small island of little ecological significance way hellangone out in the Pacific Ocean. Ought to have a few of those left over from WWII. Too bad Lincoln Island sank into the ocean. ----Alan

The so-called “Right-wing Christians” are neither right nor Christian. They’re just wing-nuts.

Trump Interview Unnerves Staff at Univision [Click] Univision under its previous management had been politically very even-hande; maybe no longer?

ReplyDeleteA worthy article by my good friend Prof Rebecca Kneale Gould of Middlebury College, on the need for listening before reacting, particularly with regard to the Middle East
listener, that was just lovely! Give her my thanks for making my world better.

That would be utterly horrible...to be deprived of pre-1920 literature! 🙀

”Little people” at Mar-a-Lago will be testifying in the documents case. [Click] Trump is reportedly displeased. Very displeased.
