Wow--Ten day high temperatures forecast: 109F, 109, 108, 107, 105, 102, 99, 99, 101, 103 The weekend heat index map for the lower 48 is all various shades of red.
No, not so bad as that. There are various types of soil, including sandy, and they have been worked for generations. One of the common problems is a hardpan [AKA caliche] layer below ground, but that can be broken up with dynamite (nowadays out of fashion) or with huge ripping plows. Picture the very biggest bulldozers, with a HUGE hook on back that can reach down ten or twelve feet underground and break up anything it encounters. (No boulders or glacial erratics here--it is an ancient seabed.)
Hardpan is formed by rainwater leaching salts out of the overlying soil and then percolating down and evaporating. It can be almost like a bed of rock. Our area has some of the thickest and hardest hardpan in the area because of millenia of flooding by the river; underneath that is a thick bed of sand.

Paint me vindictive if you will, but I am of the opinion that it was a big mistake for Teddy Roosevelt to return the Confederate flags captured by US forces to the states they came from.
If Teddy could have but foreseen today, I am sure he would not have done that deed. It was, at the time, a good deed of an olive branch, with hope and trust that those who had rebelled would more surely join the Union if they weren't reprimanded. But, of course, that only works with people who care about more than just themselves.
THE GOD OF WAR - US HIMARS ARE BURNING THE RUSSIAN FRONT IN UKRAINE [Click] This is a very good analysis of the western technological, tactical, and strategic advantages over the Russian army in Ukraine. It pulls together a number of threads I was aware of but hadn’t previously found consolidated.
Y'know, it's wonderfully ironic that DT ran for the Presidency to get notoriety and increase his brand, when having that notoriety shone a light on all his corruption, now leading to a number of lawsuits which devalue his brand.

After the Civil War, there was no consequence for confederates, not even their leaders. And here we are today.

ReplyDeleteVery interesting. Thanks. I have about given up following news reports because I expect them to be propaganda driven.
DeleteQuite a few of them are propaganda, it's true.

ReplyDelete"The circumstances surrounding the erasure of the Secret Service texts from the day before and the day of the Capitol attack have become central for the select committee as it investigates how it planned to move Donald Trump and Mike Pence as the violence unfolded.
The texts are potentially significant for investigators as the Secret Service played a crucial role in preventing Donald Trump from going to the Capitol that day and wanted to remove then-vice-president Mike Pence from the complex, according to the panel."

Hey, Susan, what's the distinction in how you posted those last two posts today? The first came up Anonymous, and the second came up as Susan!
