A little while ago Miyoko called me to see a huge column of smoke rising from a new fire about thirty miles to the north. We have never seen the like. They call it the "River Fire," and areas nearby are being evacuated. I see in the news that several large power lines supplying California from Washington have been disabled.
The column of smoke above the fire has diminished considerably, and the winds are pushing the smoke to the southeast, along the foothills, and not towards us.
Thank you both for your concern, but there is no danger for us. Although spectacular looking in the beginning, the fire is thirty miles from here. And the heat is still within the range to be expected in Fresno, and our house is well insulated. One of our three air conditioning units croaked (after only about 27 years) a while back, and the A/C guy will be here on Wednesday. The failed one takes care of our bedroom among other nearby areas, but by late in the evening the temperature is tolerable, and the main living areas of the house still have cooling. Fans help. I have some art supplies coming this week!
