Lavender Wands

I'd never heard of these until my best friend started making them and sent me one.  Last year we planted Lavender, and due to some movement of plantings in her yard she has only a small amount this year.  So I decided to make one for her, and one for my daughter.  They are a LOT of work!  But they make a nice sachet for a sock drawer or to scent one's stationery.  I think I've made my lifetime's amount, though.  I think I'll stick with quilting!
You start with an uneven number of Lavender fronds.  You bend the stalks down over the fronds to make a kind of cage around them.  Then you weave 1/4" ribbon through the cage.  It secures the Lavender inside the weaving and it smells really nice.  It's really fiddly, though.  Would be much better if I had young eyes.

And now to the Land of Nod.

    1. When a hoard of any kind gets too large, it is almost impossible to do anything with it. Too large fails. The dinosaurs experienced that. The financial world discovered its limitations when it was given $500 billion and in nine months was only able to distribute $42 Billion, less than ten percent.
It is all fine and good to have billions in an account; passing it around is another matter.
We had a neighbor who hoarded dishes from yard sales so she would not have to wash dishes. Eventually, she had to sell the house because the kitchen was too cluttered to walk around in.
Our neighbor across the street was also addicted to yard sales. She bought bags of clothing and threw them in the living room until, eventually, it was filled chest-high.
At least electronic dollars do not take up any space, but they are worthless sitting in accounts.

  2. listener, this is all yours. I've had The Guernsey Literary & Potato Peel Pie Society on my wait list for several years now 'cause of your rec. The other night, it showed up again, and my soul said ENUFF!--so I went ahead and ordered it. It came yesterday, but didn't get opened till very early a.m. and then I waited to finish the first set of Avengers. And then it turned out to be region 2. So I began kicking myself because I hadn't checked AND because I'd been thinking about buying an all region DVD when I got my last one two weeks ago, and then didn't. sob sob sob

And *then* got a little message from the Dell DVD player that I could change. . . . catch is, I can only change so many times, and that amount of changes is unknown, and you can get stuck in another region and not be able to change back. So gotta watch it five or ten times at least. . . . mebbe twenty? thirty?

Good news is that that ain't gonna be hard. Despite the fact that I really didn't like either her character or her interviews on Downton Abbey, I was stunned at how good Lilly James was in this. I actually cried almost all the way through. Not continually, but eyes were never dry before the next bout started. . . .

    So, listener, THANKS!

    1. Usually you can reset the DVD player area code five times. It has been a long time since I had any call to do so, but it is possible to copy a DVD and change it to region-free at the same time. Getting past the anti-copying protections on the original disk can be a bit of a problem, though. Probably a region-free player is most convenient.

    2. Over the years I have had good experiences dealing with B&H in NYC; they even adapt some equipment that is not intended for sale in the US. Here is a link for region-free players on their site:

I hope this clickified link works; if not, click and paste:

  3. *Very* slight smell of smoke this morning, air quality index unchanged, and it's COOL! There is enough smoke from the Rivers fire to limit visibility in that direction somewhat.
