Poor Vermont!

We took the grandsons to little Burlington International Airport on Saturday to watch planes take off and land. We didn’t know until we got there that Air Force Two was on the tarmac. Well, parked out on front of the Green Mountain Boys’ hangars.  Apparently the Pence family vacationed at a lake in Hubbardton. I take great satisfaction in knowing that a local chose to express her disdain by kayaking a sign back and forth across the lake.

  1. Sorry to keep everyone waiting so long. We had four grands here this weekend, and an overnight birthday girl and I lost track! Back now. House is quiet. We should be okay from here.

  2. No problem at all.

P.S.: My cell phone was croaked by the company (Tracfone) when I tried to add minutes before my trip to Washington (State), and they said it was too old to update; they will be sending me a free replacement, which I hope will arrive in time. If I have it figured right, that will require replacement some time next year because of Verizon discontinuing 3G channels. I have been looking around for something similar to my beloved Nokia 2126, and roughly comparable ones are now described as "senior phones." That seemed an insult, until I realized that at 71 (almost 72) years of age I am clearly qualified as a senior. Bah!

P.P.S.: I don't think I mentioned it here, but I realized that on my way back from NW Washington I will be at leisure in Seattle Sunday afternoon and evening, then discovered that there will be a Sacred Harp singing there that evening. I have figured out how to get there from my hotel and back by public transit (taxi is too expensive, although faster), and even where to pick up a contribution to dinner. (There is a supermarket near where I change from light rail to bus.)

Now to see if I can find the story about the kayaker.

    1. You don't like being a senior? Well, I guess you're a bit on the young side still.

I hope the Tracfone replacement arrives without difficulty. I ordered my first smartphone from them in mid-May and finally got a working version of the model I ordered in early August. It arrived exactly two days before I left for Worldcon. But it did give me a working wi-fi hotspot on the train. (I had previously had a T-Mobile hotspot but discovered that it, like your Tracfone, was now too old to be usable.)

    2. Would I be correct to think that a hotspot essentially communicates with the Internet via its telephone connection, and with a laptop or suchlike via wifi?

Here is the free one they are sending me [Click]
It doesn't look like it can function as a wifi hotspot, but that's OK with me. It has a passable camera (I have found sample photos on Google Images), which is a step up; but no flashlight, I think--which is a step down.

    3. Yes, that description of "hotspot" is right on.

The phone they are sending you is almost identical to the flip phone I have just retired. The only difference I can see is the position of the "LG" logo. You're right that can't function as a hotspot. And no flashlight. I never used the camera both because I am not a picture taker and because I could never figure out how to get the pictures from the phone to my computer.

One additional nice feature of my new phone is that if wi-fi is available in an aarea the phone can connect to that and do whatever it does without using minutes.

    1. I can't share the emotion. Even when done well, cursive is much harder for visually limited people to read.

    2. Yeah, I understand that, Bill. I think of it more as an art form than for communication.
