Delighted to hear that Cursive could be making a real comeback. Now wouldn't it be nice if it were coming back with correct hand position and smooth ink? Perhaps you should teach a class for teachers!!
Thanks for the link, listener. I was struck by the methods the teacher used to get kids interested in cursive. I started school in 1952, which would place the start of cursive at about 1955; by then only the old teachers had been taught how to teach the Palmer method; we missed out on its essential element--how to use the arm and hand as well as the fingers.
I wasn't present when she received it, but I was sent a photo of her reading it to her godmother. She was pretty excited until she learned that Hogwarts is in Britain. She decided to maybe defer a year, as that's too far from home. 😄
The even bigger hit was the dollhouse we found for her on Craigslist! It's nice and is even wired for electricity. What we paid would be a fair price for the dollhouse in its current condition...needing a few repairs... to one chimney, with shingles needed around it, and some flooring needing replacing. And it came with extra bricks, shingles and wallpaper! But it also came with all the furniture and accessories the family had gathered through the years. This is the high quality old fashioned furniture with real drawers and even a wooden toilet seat that opens and closes, a wee willow ware crock with tiny pussywillows in it, glass canisters, an old ice box with wire racks that pull out, and on and on. She was delighted!! I may have to post a few photos out front at 1:00am. :-)
That sounds like a super dollhouse. I just made a four-room one with a pattern I bought from Etsy. I'm having a terrible time with the furniture though. I finally figured out that the scale is the same as a Lundby dollhouse, so I've got the pattern for a sofa and chair going. I had purchased a pattern for tub, toilet and sink made by the same method as the dollhouse, but I think I'm going to skip it as it will take up too much room in the second bedroom. Dragging my feet quite a bit though.
Susan, do you mean that you are sewing a dollhouse? Even building one from wood or a kit would be difficult. Wil made one from a nice kit with Daughter when she was about 9 years old. She still has it. But they never made the furniture! You are a wonder!!!
Maybe Trump’s poll drop is real? [Click] We can hope it is the start of a very slippery slope, no? More on this linked from “calm before the storm” story below.
As I read The Calm Before the Storm I recalled DT's assertion this week that if the Dems win big in Nov, they will be "violent." No doubt it was projection. What he's really saying in Republican-ese is that if the Dems win big in Nov, HE will be violent.
Here's the link to the kayaker story, Alan!

DeleteYes, I sewed the dollhouse. My tech abilities don't match my sewing abilities, but I'll try to post the picture of the pattern I bought. My house looks exactly like that.
