Occupy Burlington started protesting this week in City Hall Park without a permit. The police allowed them to stay, and the protestors promised not to use tent stakes (due to electrical lines near the surface) and not to disrupt the last Farmer's Market of the season taking place there also. One more reason to love the sanity of Vermont. http://www.burlingtonfreepress.com/article/20111028/NEWS02/111028015/City-says-Occupy-Wall-Street-protesters-must-leave-City-Hall-Park-by-midnight?odyssey=mod|mostcom
Alan, when I was growing up in SLC, my two basic prayers about snow were: 1 -- it wouldn't snow *before* Halloween, so you wouldn't have to wear a coat OVER your costume, and 2 -- that it would stop snowing before Easter, so they could hide the eggs outside. . . .
Here in NW VT we got a dusting of snow overnight which melted off this morning. Grass and sunshine now. Hearing about the power outages, people stuck on an Amtrack train overnight, etc., has also melted away my snow envy. Take care, everyone.
I imagine that given the kind of winters you folks have, the campout is not likely to be very long anyway. Re other approaches, I guarantee you that the Oakland, California police department has been very seriously dysfunctional for a long time. But if things are looking up police/sheriff-wise in Los Angeles, there is certainly hope for Oakland. Best not to go there in the first place, though.
Amendment I:
"Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances."
Not sure I understand. In my browser, set to show yellow text on a black background, the page in Japanese came up mostly block-on-black. And when I clicked on the "Google in English" page, I didn't see anything unusual.
