  2. Last night/this morning, Beau discovered a cache of beads, AND a bag of makeup, and made a lovely hash on the rug. AND pissed on the rug as well. Glad I have some skunk odor eliminator (with enzymes). New regime: puppy gets hooked to leg of bed overnight. For a week or two, till the pattern is broken. He's on the porch just now, full of regret. He knows when he's blown it, so no sense yelling at him. But I *had* forgotten a lot about puppy behavior, which he's doing a good job of reminding me of. . . .

  3. Been fairly quiet for a holiday weekend morning. Wondering if many of the summer/hunting people are just not making the trip. Kirk said that was true, and really hurt his store. In fact, was the final nail in the coffin.

  4. I got up and worked earlier. The Library was crazy busy with people looking for good porch reading.

Came home and it was super quiet in the neighbourhood...every one must have been out somewhere having some sort of holiday fun. After Sweetie mowed part of the lawn and we discovered that Son's Root Center volunteer day was so successful they were finishing three hours early { ! }, we decided to hang out here and just recuperate from the wild week. Tomorrow looks like a granddaughter day, and we'll see about burgers and ice cream and fireworks on Monday.

  6. Ah, puddle, every day with a grand is grand. :-)

And it's definitely ON. Eldest*Son is in CA for TaeKwon Do Nationals (he's an international referee), so DIL has been solo all week with their 3 year old. Heh. She needs a little time to herself and we're going to make it happen. Son returns sometime on Monday.

  7. Something to the old "it takes a village" thing, eh? I always lived far from my kids grandparents, alas. Or maybe not: their father's Dad was a mean piece of work, so I wanted to be around to supervise their interactions with him. As they got older, they just refused to go. Don't ever let anyone tell you that teasing isn't mean. Interestingly, it was only his grandSONS. Never bothered the little girls.

  8. Teasing is only okay if BOTH parties enjoy it. We lived a distance from my folks due to their poor comprehension of what discipline means...and more. Sad for that, but we put the children's best interest first. In later years some of them questioned our choice, imagining that their grandparents would have been nice to know more. I find I can live that that criticism, because I know from personal experience that the alternative would have been worse.
