What I got done yesterday was mostly not what I thought I was going to. Last week we had a couple of replacement window salesmen come out. (The cheap vinyl replacement windows we got upstainrs about 35 years ago have conspicuously not held up.) One of the salesmen didn't bring a sample fiberglass window, so somewhat unexpectedly (unexpected by me) Marc and Penny and I found ourselves going out to the showroom. Just as well, because we found ourselves agreeing that these windows didn't look as sturdy as the other, significantly more expensive, brand. Understand, they would probably have outlasted Penny and me, but we want something that will maybe outlast Marc (currently 41). But Marc insists we also have to look at the third major brand of fiberglass window, so no decision yet.
Then I read a bit while Penny and Marc shopped for a shopping cart at a nearby store, after which we went out to dinner. Ended up at a new (to us) restaurant that has suddenly become one of our two or three favorites. Absolutely delicious Bohemian food -- I had the svickova with dumplings and sour-cream gravy -- and almost everything under $10 including dessert.
You probably haven't seen me around much because I've been busy. Had an absolute bear of a work deadline, completed midnight Wednesay. Work has continued since then, although without a serious deadline. Meanwhile I've been trying both to catch up and to get ready for my trip to Westercon (in the Bay area this year), which starts Thursday.
Nother sweet green day here. A bit warmer than yesterday, but we haven't hit 80º yet, so. Clothes on the line, and thunderstorms in the prediction. So an extra rinse, lol!
Gotta get to some store today: out of cat/dog food and anything to MAKE cat or dog food from. (lie: I still have two whole cans of tuna fish)
The doc thinks Sis may have an infection, which would account for a lot of her probs including night sweats. She goes back in four weeks and, if that's what it turns out to be, they'll give her an antibiotic along with the Prilosec(sp?) and that should clear it up. If not, she'll need endoscopy and colonoscopy. So, she's hopeful. Please send positive vibes her way. They really help.
She has ulcers? That sounds like the (recently) classic ulcer treatment. Which *works* BTW, my brother had a bleeding ulcer (after a lifetime of ulcers), and they fixed it forever with Prilosec and some antibiotic.
The photo of the red rose turned out to be prophetic! Mah*Sweetie came in the door last night with a dozen red roses! The funny thing is that at our wedding I carried a single white rose (and a white Bible). Funny that this year the colour is red on all counts! :-D
My favourite rose is actually a pink rose, as they smells really strongly, and the scent is most heavenly.
These reds also smell lovely!
Hoping all good things for Sister*of*Catreona!!
Now back to the quilt. Last night I embroidered a garden. Tonight it's a Rabbit in Winter.
We liked the Marvin Windows, and the big, fiberglass one we had placed in our livingroom cut out all the drafts the old one had and we've saved heaps in fuel bills. What's more, the folks who came out and installed it were top notch!
Howard and listener and Her*Sweetie are first on this very sweet day!

Happy Anniversary to listener and her sweetie!!!
ReplyDeleteThat rose is so gorgeous, I can practically smell it!
Cats eat tuna fish, ours do anyway. Do dogs? If so, you can postpone the inevitable a little longer. If not, not.
ReplyDeleteBoth, but *two* cans? Inhaled in a nanosecond, lol!

P.S.: Skip anything vinyl...they warp.
