    1. Whenever I encounter the place name "Underhill" I recall a short story about a Mr. Underhill, whose house was under a hill, and was actually a dragon who went out and about disguised as a human.

    2. That might have been an Ursula Le Guin story.

    3. To me "Mr. Underhill" is another name for Frodo Baggins in the Tolkien Trilogy! Aragorn called him that.

    4. It was the traveling name Gandalf gave Frodo, the name he was to use at Btree. Strider (Aragorn) was introduced to him as Mr. Underhill, and that is the name Barleyman Butterbur and his staff used.

    5. Alan, you intrigue me. I'll have to look for that story - it's not one I've read. But then, I haven't read all Ursula La Guin's stories.

    6. I may be mistaken about the source, but I could be right too. Thank you.

  4. We had some snowflakes today...even a few minor squalls mixed in...but nothing accumulated.
Low of 23ºF expected tonight. 28ºF tomorro night. Then it warms up above 33ºF at night and into the 60's by day.

  7. Cat--in re Ursula Le Guin, have you read "The Left Hand of Darkness"? I was left with (and retain) the impression that it was the best "science fiction" novel I had ever read, and also that only a woman could have written it.

    1. I read it decades ago. Not sure it's the very, very best, but certainly very good, especially for its time. It never occurred to me the woman author was important, but I may have already been nonbinary without realizing it.
