Welcome, February!

  1. 0615 hrs here, full dark, coffee on the way, light rain, no wind, cat outside for a while. Weather prediction is for scattered thunderstorms this afternoon; ten day forecast is for rain most of those days. Will get the fruit trees sprayed with horticultural oil to kill insects overwintering in the bark as weather permits, probably spray with sulphur a second time to control peach leaf curl. It was easier when I could combine sulphur and oil into one spray, but can't do that now (need a special license for the old sulphur spray). Got all the pruning hook work done, but have to do some heavier pruning with the electric pole saw as weather permits---no rush. Garbage collection today. Now to check the political gnus while sipping coffee.

  2. Oops--- typographical error. The last two lines should be before the [Video] Massive Verdict line.

  3. Noticed that our "rain" had stopped by 0900. Having grown up where many storms would give us an inch an hour, a quarter inch in ten or twelve hours doesn't impress me. I remember once (where I grew up) it rained continuously for seven days and seven nights; sometimes lighter, sometimes heavier, but without stopping.

Vermont had a record 87% cloud cover in January. Not helpful for the solar panels. We are finally supposed to see some sun this weekend.

  4. Just last night I was thinking that Biden might ask European leaders to give more now and the US will give more later once we get Congress sorted out in November. And it seems they’re already doing it…

Ukraine support package worth €50bn agreed by EU leaders

    3. France and Sweden are stepping up, too! Grippen fighter jets from Sweden (designed to counter Russian fighters) and very accurate air (or ground) to ground missiles from France. Also more self-propelled howitzers and 155mm rounds to come from France.

  8. 4:30 PM here; we have an absolutely brilliant rainbow; the primary rainbow is complete, but only the ends of the secondary are visible.
