Well, the aurora was a bust. Heading to sleep. For the record, I only slept about 5 hours last night. Sigh. But still had an average of 6.4hrs/night for the week.
My parents told me they saw an aurora once, in the village where we lived when I was born. It's four degrees south of Jericho, and there were no outdoor lights back then. -----Alan
It's absolutely stunningly beautiful and impressive. I've seen it half dozen times, but the most amazing was November 8th in 1988 or 1989...when the entire sky was coated in it. It looked like someone had poured a can of paint over the dome of the sky and it was dripping down everywhere! I could easily see why ancient peoples thought the world was coming to an end.

We just saw that big flock of egrets we saw yesterday returning to the river bottom from wherever they spent the night. Of course it might be another flock, but it is the same size, about twenty to thirty. ----Alan
I have seen them congregating in flocks here and there over the years (in the winter??), but can't say whether or not we have seen so many in the river bottom below our house. At first we thought they might be white pelicans, but it's the wrong time of year and they didn't seem big enough. When first we saw them they were congregated in a big white raft, which is typical of white pelicans, but field glasses showed what they were, from their beaks. On the way out to the rural hospital where I used to work there was a place where ibis congregated on their way by---I didn't know there were ibis in California. Their feathers were beautiful---very dark, and iridescent. ----Alan
How about the Gazans? They're the victims of genecide. Why doesn't anyone owe it to them to keep their genetic lines going? Hell, why doesn't anyone owe it to them to keep Gaza from being systematically bombed off the face of the earth?
I can't locate it at the moment, but I saw a story about two young brothers (looked like 8 or 10 years old) who had specialized surgeries in the US, went back home to Gaza, and were killed in an Israeli airstrike (I don't remember the details--I couldn't bear to read much more than the headline). ---Alan
It's absolutely insane. The Israeli's have killed more than 10X as many people as Hamas did. The entire Vermont delegation to Congress is calling for a ceasefire, and are saying no more financial aid to Israel unless they act humanely. Apparently, though, Israel isn't listening. Not really. I mean, sending word through the internet that certain areas need to evacuate to certain other areas only works if those people have internet ... which of course they don't because Israel blew it to smithereens. Yes, Hamas has to be stopped. But the way to do that would have been to take the wind out of their sails. Instead, Netanyahu has been fanning the wind for years.

Gee, that girl is hard to listen to. She doesn't speak distinctly and she rambles on and on. Besides that, her voice itself has some quality, I donno, maybe the pitch or timbre, but it bothered me, gave me a headache, actually. Disappointing, because the subject of the videocast was interesting.

Interesting that some of the people who Santos stole money from include a fellow Republican Representative and that Rep's family members.
DeleteSo, once in a blue moon the House can do something right, huh? Good to know.
