  1. 0545 hrs here, still dark, but one of the cats wanted to go out and I let him, with an outside light on. When I opened the door I could hear the wind machines in the huge citrus orchards on the north side of the river. Reported current temperature in the city is 34F. We haven't had any frost so far this year. Now for my first cup of coffee for the day.

    1. 0605, still dark, let the cat back in, and poured first cup of coffee. Back to the news, such as it is.

    3. Overnight dusting of snow here. Snow predicted for daylight hours, but at 2;45 I haven't seen any.

  2. puddle-- comment at end of previous thread--suggested to enhance the durability of your DVD player that you plug it into a plug strip with a built-in surge suppressor, if you have not yet done so.

    1. The computer itself is hooked to a surge protector power strip, and the dvd player is only powered by a plug in to the computer

      Thanks Alan!! puddle~~

  5. Britain’s Black Friday— when bobbies attacked suffragettes protesting at Westminster [Click] I recall reading about Emmeline Pankhurst secretly organizing judo lessons for women— which was quite the surprise for bobbies who were sent sprawling or ended up flat on their backs when they tried to mess with the protesters.

    1. She's just two months younger than my youngest grandchild. It's heartbreaking what she has endured. She saw her mother killed in front of her, ran to her father who shielded her and was killed. Crawled out from under his body and ran to a neighbour (whose youngest is the same age, as they are pre-school buddies), then they were all taken hostage. I want to hear that the mother and three children taken along with her got released too.

    3. The Palestinian dead, injured, and repeatedly dispossessed, including children and infants, are no less worthy of pity--not that I think anyone here would deny it. This conflict has been going on for more than a century now; the Balfour Declaration was issued November 2nd, 1917. It was only one of several British steps in dismembering the Ottoman Empire that continue to plague the world today.

    4. Every death from conflict is heartbreaking and utterly avoidable

      Hate crimes too are infuriating.
3 Palestinian college students were shot in Vermont. Civil rights groups are calling for a close look at the motive

  10. Darned if I can figure out where the cat has put my bifocals; fortunately I have my old pair, that I have been using for gardening, and they will serve until I solve the mystery.
