  2. Arbitrary and capricious legislation ia favored by people who themselves never intend to follow the law. It makes them feel important.
However, the citizenry is partly at fault because we fail to assert that servants are being hired, not poobahs installed
Even now the press is referring to Trump as the erstwhile most powerful person the globe.
What happened on Jan 20, 2021 was not the "transfer of power," but the assignment of the POWERS that go with the obligations of office.

I wonder if he did a bunk or if Trump's people got to him and removed him permanently.

    1. I suppose he took French leave; perhaps I am wrong, but so far it seems the Trumpists are actually too squeamish to take anyone for a ride.

  6. 1:15 PM here (well, approximately) and I just stepped outside to put out a bit of possum food. It is noticeably cooler (well, less hot) today and there is a nice little breeze. Tropical Storm Hillary is scheduled to get us just a bit of rain plus temperatures in the 80's F; typical for an August storm here, although one can reasonably expect some flooding in southern California. If we are lucky we may even get a little lightning, but I wouldn't bet on it.

  7. 38 degrees last night. Got up about five and put my robe on before going back to bed. Not much fun, that. Winter "isacummen in", goddamn. . . .

  8. Just now (about 5PM) I stepped outside, and it sure felt hot. About 75% cloud cover, reported temperature 96F, humidity 26%. Thunderstorms predicted this evening, winds 5-10 mph. We plan to do some weeding in a flowerbed after dinner.

    1. Dr. Kipping seems to have an accent close to what I have been attempting to acquire; I wonder if he comes from the West of England. I have not found any biographical information about him (e.g. Wikipedia entry).

  10. Thick clouds had formed by 6PM; about 6:10 the wind picked up and we heard the first thunder. The wind was blowing a lot of dust, then by 6:15 it was beginning to rain. Our weeding, which had been scheduled for 6:30, has been cancelled.
