Gorgeous Day on the Lake

  1. Via CNN: "Rudy Giuliani still hasn’t found a Georgia-based lawyer to negotiate his surrender." Some [ahem] commentators express doubts.

    1. Evidently he now has--says he will turn himself in today. No details, though.

  2. 10:30 AM, just back from or 2km walk (and harvesting bamboo shoots). The reported current temperature is only 83F, but there is neither breeze nor clouds. The sweat was just pouring off of me when we returned. 54% humidity--- that's probably the big difference.

    1. Yup. The humidity is the wild card.
Currently here it's 74ºF and 47% humidity, so it feels great...since our dew point is 53º.

If the dew point is higher than % humidity, you don't get "sticky."

    1. Sure! Especially if you're going the width of the Lake, rather than the length.

Lake Champlain is 124.9miles long and 14.29 miles wide at the widest place.
It is only about 100 feet above sea level and it flows north. It contains 587 miles of shoreline, 70-some islands, and 6.8 trillion gallons of water, and reaches a depth of 400 feet.

    2. Ah, not nearly as deep as Loch Ness . . .

    3. True, but deep enough for the species. It prefers around 400 ft.
400 ft is also one of the deepest places in North America.

    1. The rumor mill is in high gear; but the lack of commercial jet airplane parts in Russia could also explain it. I'd bet a nickel nut bar (whatever that costs nowadays) that will be the official explanation.

    2. Off topic: I read that the NATO-standard 155mm howitzers in Ukraine are about 3-4 times as effective as the old 152mm soviet howitzers, mostly due to longer range and greater accuracy, but also to greater mobility. I saw another video of a Ukrainian "doom buggy" being used by scouting groups--essentially a cut-down, home-made, unarmored jeep-like vehicle carrying a machine gun or automatic grenade launcher. They can pop up anywhere behind Russian lines, shoot up targets of opportunity, and be gone before the Russian troops can react. Also saw a humorous video of Ukrainian army air conditioning: a group of small quadcopters hanging under the ceiling!

    1. Funny you should mention Earwigs. The house next door went on the market today. The previous owner hasn't forwarded his mail and the mailbox is jammed full. I only know this because our mail lady is on vacation this week and the person who did her route yesterday gave us the mail for the mailbox one off from ours. So we put it into the correct box and checked the one on the other side incase our mail was there. That's when I opened the jammed full box and also found about 30-40 Airwigs in it! QUITE the surprise! I felt bad for the mail carrier.
