Another young grand at the helm!

Age 5 years and a few weeks.

In fact, she was also at the bow. She loved standing at the bow with the wind in her face and announcing "Waves Ahoy!" whenever a motorboat sent some our way. Given that it was also blowing whitecaps, she was a real hoot.
Grandad Wil held onto the back of her life vest until she insisted:
"Don't hold me, Grandad!" So he quietly employed the Spinnaker halyard.

  1. The spouse's novel, originally titled "Born to the Helm" is now published as "Not That It Matters" at https://www.not-that-it-matters.com/ It is the story of a young woman who, at her father's instigation, seeks the Presidency in 2016 and saves us all a lot of trouble.
The book is available to download at the web site.

    1. I wish I had more time to read. The Prologue is more than a bit interesting. But, especially at the moment, I have so many commitments to my science fiction/fantasy book discussion grops that I can't manage to fit another book in. Maybe sometime.

  2. What the Polls May Be Getting Wrong About Trump [Click] Asking the wrong question may well lead to misleading answers. As for Trump’s seemingly increasing lead over his GOP primary opponents, that seems to be their appeals weakening rather than his increasing.

    Historic News Out Of Gitmo

A military judge has tossed the confession of Abd al-Rahim al-Nashiri, who is accused of being the mastermind of the 2000 bombing of the U.S.S. Cole, ruling that it was the product of illegal torture by the CIA:

It's just stunning to see this in print from a GTMO military commission judge. From the suppression decision in Nashiri: pic.twitter.com/a8XD3S12nl

  4. Pioneering wind-powered cargo ship sets sail [Click] The fuel and CO2 savings are more than I should have expected. Now to pair them with an engine using hydrogen stored as ammonia.

    1. Somewhere not long ago I saw that a modern cargo ship powered by hydrogen stored as ammonia was either under construction or undergoing sea trials. Ammonia can be made from nitrogen in air plus hydrogen from electrolysis; it is a liquid at relatively high temperatures and modest pressure. Thus it can be made without producing any CO2, and it is easy to store and to decompose into hydrogen. It is already used to store excess power from wind and tidal power plants. In graduate school I used liquid ammonia extensively; it is relatively easy to handle safely.

  9. Hey, Cat, thanks for prepping some posts for future use!! 😺
I hope you won't mind that I moved your Labor Day post from Sept 2nd to Sept 4th, as that's Labor Day this year and I didn't have a better idea.

  10. While pulling weeds this afternoon and enjoying the excellent weeding conditions, the (mostly) blue sky, and the nice breeze, I fell to thinking about the news. It seems to me that day by day things are getting worse for Russia and Trump, while for China and the GOP things deteriorate month by month.
