Storm Approaching

  1. They are overstepping their authority. Law enforcement is supposed torespond to complaints insult or injury. Individual behavior is presumed to be good. So, efforts to subject natural processes and functions to the jurisdiction of the state are ipso facto un-Constitutional.
However, we have a long history of letting the agents of government declare our natural functions (association, reproduction, alimentation, ingestion, excretion, ambulation, etc.) to be criminal.
For a long time,,the authoritarian proclivities were mainly directed towards particular groups. Now that the availability of "approved" targets has shrunk, the whole population is vulnerable to repression. If the deprivation of rights cannot be selective, it has to be near universal.
More civilians were shot dead by police in 2022 than any prior year. Why? The prevalence of guns in the civilian population provides an excuse for police to "protect" themselves.

    1. I don't see how it doesn't violate HIPAA; furthermore, it sounds like the Fugitive Slave Act. I also think that in cases of immigrants being taken to other states and dumped that the driver/pilot should be arrested for human trafficking and the bus/airplane impounded as evidence. But in the latter case the victims qualify for special visas.

but if you read all the way to the end, you'll be smiling.

    1. I should beg to differ with the writer's definition of socialism, which I consider the foundation of the modern nation state, and the successor to feudalism. But many people agree with her.

    2. Well, Alan, HCR is professor of political history at Boston College. She is usually very accurate, but I'm sure she would welcome a question about her reasoning for this use of the word. Do you get her Letters from An American in your email? You can always contact her that way.

  5. GUESS WHAT!! 🤩

I SLEPT 8 HOURS LAST NIGHT!!
Turns out the meds were what was jazzing up my body such that I could not fall asleep. Once they wore off it was pure bliss.
Sooo comfy in bed. In fact, after three hours I got up to gargle again and had a drink of water. Thought I'd best sit a few minutes until I burped before climbing back into bed. Then woke up three hours later in the chair! LOL!! Went back to bed and slept another two hours. Gee, I could get used to sleeping again.

May you soon be visited by the Sleep Fairy, puddle!!! ✨🧚‍♀️✨

  6. I am beginning to suspect (from the looks of the small one that is currently developing) that the volunteer squash growing out of our compost heap may be kabocha (a Japanese winter squash). I should prefer that to zucchini.
