Dramatic world-wide increase in syphilis [Click] I remember an older medical laboratory technologist telling me of working at the Palo Alto [CA] VA hospital in the 1950’s. He told of the tertiary syphilis ward, where the blind pushed the wheel chairs of those who couldn’t walk. The lab was one or two floors below the ward, and every once in a while they would see a body plummet past the windows. The older bioanalyst (sort of a super-MT) told of seeing children with congenital syphilis; one of the signs was that they would have pointed canine teeth. All very bad stuff, largely eliminated by penicillin and widespread testing. —Alan
I went to the doctor today, after having just 1.5 hours of broken sleep last night. They’re giving me med for the Thrush, med for reflux, and med to help a little with sleeping for a few nights. And in an abundance of caution, they’re going to have me wear a holter monitor for two days, to see if the feeling of palpitations means anything nefarious. I’m officially old! 😕
Sounds like a lot of meds. Hope they help! Also, an abundance of caution is a good thing. Mom had one of those heart monitor harnesses once. It was a bit of a PITA, but it ruled certain things out, which is valuable. And if, God forbid, there is something wrong, better to catch it sooner rather than later.

ReplyDeleteHere's hoping they find some pre-Clovis artefacts. [Full disclosure: I hope to see the discovery of (more) evidence of Homo erectus in the Americas.]
