  3. I never watch the show Jeopardy. However, a local weather guy posted a note saying that there will be a question on tonight’s show that none of the contestants was able to answer. Anyone here know without looking it up?

“In 1864 it became the northernmost state to see land action when about 25 Confederate soldiers raided the town of St. Albans”

    2. I don't know the answer. I seem to recall a St. Albans in New York, but that doesn't make sense. So I'd guess Indiana.

    3. Wait a minute. I'm not sure Indiana is north of Pennsylvania. So maybe it is New York.

    4. Damned if I know. I suspect it was irregulars.

    5. St. Albans is in Vermont!
It is just 13 miles from the Canadian border, too. So that is about as far north as they could have done the deed!
Funny that no one caught the easy clue, given that I used the word "local."

  4. Well, heard from the doc. Blood sample which was about half what they needed in the first place was mostly spoiled, so they didn't get the potassium, the other two were fine. So the next draw will be in three months, and if I can't breathe, etc, I should go to the emergency ward.

Pulse ox just now was 97. Broccoli seems to be working. Yay!

    1. Sure, but just stand waiting in a line sometime and listen to women. It doesn't matter if they've never met...they'll remark about how adorable someone's baby is, ask where they found their lovely sweater or shoes, and depending on what newspaper may be hanging on a rack nearby, have a conversation about homelessness or how unsettling the new construction in town is...etc..

    2. What I love most is that this gentle camaraderie goes back to the Red Tent of yore. Men couldn't stomach the reality that women menstruate, so women in the Hebrew community were relegated to stay in a particular tent during their "unclean" time each month. Naturally, thrown together while intimately vulnerable, they became adept at having personal, emotional conversations and it just became natural to help out one another. This became part of the culture and was passed along to us. I'm grateful.

    3. I suspect that it might go back to our pre-human ancestors and the division of roles between hunting and gathering. Perhaps to bipedalism enabling use of weapons, decreasing the utility of raw physical power among males and bringing about monogamous societies.

    4. My understanding was that there were hunters, and separately there were gatherers, and later there were hunter-gatherers. I'm definitely a gatherer.

Now I'm wondering if that's all early Conservatives and Liberals. LOL. (Might make an interesting Far Side cartoon!)

    2. I'll get excited when they finally arrest him and put him behind bars.

But it was gratifying today to hear that Stewart Rhodes got 18 years in prison for leading the Oath Keepers on January 6th!

    3. Eighteen years is very impressive, even making allowance for the possibility of early release for good behavior. It should have made an impression on The Former Guy.

    4. It's actually 18 years plus 3 years of supervision after release.

    2. I guess the United States isn't a country either, then. I saw a cartoon meme of a personified Russia:
