  1. I love that MLK quote. I also love it that MLK quotes have been posted around the hotel throughout the con.

  2. I had an unusual dream this morning. I was called to testify before a House committee, and having been sworn in, found myself about to be questioned by Katie Porter. When she pulled out her white board, I proceeded to pull a practical joke on her—pretending to slit my wrists. Typical of many dreams, I realized that would be very difficult to pull off, so changed to plunging a stage knife onto my chest, rupturing a small bag of fake blood. Upon reflection after waking, I realized that would be somewhat like the closing scene in Charlie Chaplin’s “Carmen,” where after evidently committing suicide he sits up, turns toward the camera, gives a big wink, and fades out. It is extremely unusual, perhaps unprecedented, for politicians to infiltrate my dreams.

  4. Lab-grown alternatives aim to cut palm oil dependence [Click] Distributed production will decrease the need for intercontinental shipping. Which reminds me that although it is early days, shipbuilders have built and tested hydrogen-powered ships, storing the hydrogen fuel as ammonia—so no CO2 emissions and no shipping of petroleum. I remember when I was working as a short order cook, we used coconut butter for deep fat frying— it smoked very little if at all. [Click]

    1. Agreed. Conservatives seem to be a vanishing breed. Extremists are not a satisfactory substitute.

  8. Just my opinion but I really hate that memorial. It looks like a man embracing a giant formless worm. I don't see anything of Coretta in that.

    1. I'm not at all sure what to make of it, seeing just a small portion from an odd angle.

    2. From another angle you would see a woman's bracelet on one hand.

    4. Nope, even with more pictures it's still ugly, or uglier. Very science-fictiony and horror-movie vibes. Yup, definitely hate it.

  9. Went to the dentist today. The interesting thing, though, is that rather than the wheelchair, I used the walker. I can't remember the last time I walked out of the house and down to the car to go somewhere, certainly years. Had to take it slowly and carefully, and by the time we got back home and in the house I was tired, but the hip gave me no trouble at all. Quite a successful afternoon.

    1. Sounds good! I used a walker for a short time after they rearranged my guts; don't think I truly needed it, but it was very assuring.
