    1. The political pendulum seems to have swung as far to the right as it can for now and is swinging back toward center.

  3. Wil and I are happily heading out for a day away, just the two of us. We are going to Weston (where's Cat when I write that?!) to the Vermont Country Store and to eat out and to attend the Weston Playhouse's production of HAIR...! We saw it decades ago, in our college days, and are pretty stoked to see it again. Home late tonight. 🌞🌷🦋🌻🌟

    1. Oh, how I thought of Catreona today!! We were at the Vermont Country Store, which she loves. I took photos, will print them out and mail them to her. We then attended a FABULOUS performance of HAIR..!!! Here's what I wrote afterwards.

🌞🦋 Thank you, Weston Playhouse!!! 🌟🌷
What a great cast ~ excellent voices, fantastic energy! We had seats on the aisle, and the actors were highly interactive. “Chrissy” (Emma Diner) gave me yellow flowers! So, I pulled the butterfly out of my hair and gave it to her. She said it made her day. I loved her rendition of “Frank Mills” (my all-time favourite HAIR tune). At the end, as they were taking bows, she pointed at me and made a heart with her hands! (I made one back.) The cast was remarkably aware of the audience. During the first big number by “Claude” (Nathan Salstone), I waved my flowers in tribute and he pointed at me! I was given purple flowers by “Hud” (Jamari Johnson Williams), so I gave him a yellow flower in return. He seemed pleasantly surprised. Then “Woof“ (Easton Michaels) put purple beads around my neck, and I gave him the rest of my yellow flowers. (I still had purple flowers.) Later he came and squatted down close beside me during a song. In five decades of theatre-going, I have never felt so connected to a cast … and I used to work in the Speech & Drama Dept during college…! Can you believe HAIR is 54 years old now?! The last time we saw it was 48 years ago…during Watergate and the Vietnam War. The words, the sentiment, the meaning…it’s amazing that the more things change the more they stay the same. We need another 60’s Revolution…this time without the drugs. Everybody… VOTE !! Let’s let the Sunshine in!! 🌞 This cast (and crew) sure did!

    2. And I'll be working at the polls here on Tuesday, which is Vermont's Primary. Today, this was posted by our wonderful Town Clerk in our town's emailed Front Porch Forum:

"As of Friday afternoon we have had 801 early/absentee ballot requests and 547 ballots returned. If you still have your early ballot, try to return it in the outside dropbox this weekend. The deadline to use the Town Hall drop box is Monday August 8th, 5pm.

"If you miss this deadline, the early ballot can be brought to the polls on election day. Once you sign and seal your voted ballot in the certificate envelope ..... anyone can bring it back for you. We will be at Mount Mansfield Union High School from 7am to 7pm, Tuesday August 9th.

"We will also check the mail on August 9th for returned ballots.

"Remember to sign the certificate envelope. We did receive 2 ballots in the drop box on August 3rd that had no info on the certificate envelope and no return address on the outside envelope. These ballots will not be counted unless the voter is identified and their ballot is "cured". You can check on my voter page to track the return of your ballot.

"If you don't remember signing your certificate envelope, give me a call on Monday 899-4936 x1 or email jerichovermont@yahoo.com

"Returning your early/absentee ballot by Monday 5pm will allow me to pre-check your name off the Jericho Voter Checklist when I print the Voter Checklist Monday evening for the Tuesday Election."

    3. Can't say as I have ever seen Hair, but it sure sounds like you had a great time! Not sure when our primary is, but the other day we received notice of how to track our ballots online, so it can't be far off.

  5. A little bit of an eventful ride home. Here's what we reported to police:

Saturday, 9:43pm…just north of Middlebury, on Route 7 northbound, just south of Happy Valley Road: a pickup truck passed two cars on a curve, on double yellow solid lines and a pallet fell off the truck, and landed in the road ahead of us. We stopped and moved the pallet to the side of the road and hope it didn’t do any damage to the two cars that the pickup blasted past. A pallet in the road in the dark could have caused a fatality. We didn’t see the pickup turn back to check on it.

Then, just north of there, where Rte 17 crosses Rte 7 (New Haven VT?) we came upon another pallet in our lane! We stopped and moved that one out of the road too. OMG.

    2. Thanks, Bill. Yeah, I posted about it on "VT Roads" on Facebook, in hopes that the people who that truck passed might see it. One of the two vehicles that were passed pulled over to the side of the road and had their flashers on. We couldn't see any damage, but it was dark out. They may have just been shaken up. We reported it to the police, though, to ensure that if they had need there was a witness. Just wish we'd seen the guy's license plate.

    3. That is WAY more than enough excitement for one day. Very glad no one was hurt, or evidently even damage done.
