We are off to Maine today for a quick overnight (about 30 hours total), for Youngest*Grand's 3rd birthday party. We'll leave sufficient food for the kitties and let our neighbour's daughters tend the chrysalises, incase any hatch out while we're away (which is likely). I am feeling hugely relieved that our kitty is getting well (as am I). I feel like I'm moving forward again.
Have a lovely weekend! See you on the other end. 😊
"The Department of Justice (DOJ) today released the redacted affidavit that persuaded a judge to agree to issue a search warrant for FBI agents to look for classified documents at Mar-a-Lago, the property owned by the Trump Organization in Florida.
It was bad.
The affidavit explained to the judge the history behind the FBI’s request.
On February 9, 2022, the National Archives and Records Administration (what did I say about archivists?)..." Full text here
...retaining “information related to the national defense” is illegal.
The information that Trump stole classified documents itself was eye-popping, and then that he refused to return them was astonishing. Now, the knowledge of the extent of it, and that it included information from our human sources, is stunning.
AND THIS WAS JUST THE AFFIDAVIT TO GET A SEARCH WARRANT TO GET MORE RETAINED DOCUMENTS… which the FBI did on August 8.
We still don’t know what was in those more recently recovered boxes.
Trump is in serious trouble…and so are the rest of us. This stolen and mishandled classified intelligence compromises our security. The best-case scenario is that it was never seen by anyone who knew what they were looking at. Even that would mean that our allies have every reason to be leery about sharing information with us again.
But that’s the best-case scenario. We have to wonder, who else now knows the secrets designed to keep Americans safe? Multiple news stories during Trump’s presidency noted that even then, Mar-a-Lago was notoriously insecure. And, unthinkable though it should be but sadly is not, what if secret documents have already been given or sold into the hands of foreign actors whose interests conflict with ours?
(Susan) trump would do exactly that - sharing top secret documents - only because it made him feel "important". He would never once recognize the danger he put our country in. Or other countries for that matter. I still remember when he shared Israel's secrets with the Russians, giggling all the while.
That is what I had been suspecting--so of course it is correct! Ha! Hmmmm.... I wonder where the Georgia State Penitentiary is. Searching, searching. . . The old Georgia State Prison [Click] has been closed. It seems the inmates were dispersed.
They were prepared. I think it was 2019 when the spouse received notice that when he was a candidate for a local office in 2016 there was a complaint that he had visited a voting precinct not his own (just to see how voting was going) and, upon consideration by some board, he was assessed a fine, which he could appeal or just pay. We paid even though we suspected a Republican effort to intimidate a democrat, of which there were not many candidates at the time. I actually think restrictions on candidates are good to get them used to the fact that public officials are SUBJECT to lots of laws--many more than the ordinary citizen. Anyway, a candidate calling a public official and trying to affect the tally is going to be taken very seriously.
The DOD has announced that the Ukraine exercise now has a name. Which means that the bureaucracy, instead of being responsive to needs, will be planning for a longer term strategy. If Russia wants to take Ukraine, attrition is not the game. The U.S. is not just going to be wiping Ukraine's brow. Doesn't the federal budget year begin on Sept 1?

Oh, but before I go...

Threatening them if they don't comply is icing on the cake--doing it while being recorded is candy sprinkles on top. IMO

October 1. Not that a budget is ever approved by then.
