  1. Desert Varnish on Mars? [Click] Sure looks like it. It is still not clear, but has long been suspected that desert varnish on earth is the result of microbial action.

    1. The shipping lines are not even US owned. The country's attitude towards the oceans has always struck me as strange. Lend/ lease spurred a lot of shipbuilding and the, after the war, the industry dried up.
As someone who arrived in this country four times, always by boat, 'tis both puzzling and distressing to see the oceans used for disposing of wastes.

  3. Still more hundred degree weather in the forecast. I think this may be the longest stretch since I have lived in Fresno.

    1. It’s concerning. I see reports of people paying big bucks to have their grass ripped out so they can change to arid plants.

While I like neither person in today’s image, I think the creep in the right should be wearing an orange jumpsuit.

    1. I can't honestly say I recognize either one of them. Had no clue they were supposedly well known.

    1. The purpose of public opinion polls is to determine how effective the propaganda is. Those who respond to the pollster are flattered that someone is interested in their opinion.
When Donald pronounced that it was "statistically" impossible for him to have lost, he was just repeating what the pollsters had predicted. 20,000 Republicans in Georgia did not tell the pollsters that they would vote for Republicans, BUT NOT DONALD TRUMP! Because nobody asked them and, besides, many people resent being asked about what is supposed to be a secret.
Republicans are doing a really good job depressing the vote. Why? Because the smaller the herd, the easier it is to control.

  6. No aerial/satellite photos yet, but I see reportage that the Antonovsky Bridge, the main one supplying Russian troops in the Kherson region across the Dnieper River, has been rendered unusable. Ukrainian HIMARS rockets had been knocking holes in it here and there, but last night they caught a Russian munitions convoy crossing and set it off. I think that is the last of the four Russian supply routes; the Russian headquarters staff evacuated to Crimea several days ago, leaving the twenty thousand(?) troops behind--now without any more supplies of food, fuel, or munitions.
