  1. “The Biden administration plans to offer the next generation of coronavirus booster shots to Americans 12 and older soon after Labor Day, a campaign that federal officials hope will reduce deaths from Covid-19 and protect against an expected winter surge,” the New York Times reports.

    2. I think I'm going to have to wait until around the 22nd to get my booster, because I have 12 meetings in the first three weeks of September. I could maybe do it over one long weekend, but I'd have to be sick for my birthday. I think I'll just wait that extra bit of time instead.

  2. This happened about 10 miles from my house, near our exit off the interstate.
Three cows got out of their enclosure and wandered onto the interstate
Two seem to have been hit by vehicles and died. The third survived and was brought home. Very sad for the farmer.
The odd thing is that no one reported a crash...!

    1. They were probably afraid of being liable for the value of the cows. Plus hit and run.

  3. I had my tooth pulled today. Not counting my partially erupted wisdom teeth, that is the first I've lost in 86 years. Interesting side note: Maybe 30 years ago one of this tooth's roots became infected and had to be removed. The oral surgeon wanted to remove the entire tooth on the grounds that a molar with only two roots wouldn't last long. Dr. Heiferman disagreed, and boy was she right. I eventually lost the tooth because an extensive cavity had worked its way under the corwn.

  4. Since I didn't get my second booster until July 23, I plan to wait until sometime around Thanksgiving. That's about when I expected the bivalent booster to be available but apparently they decided that, like the annual flu shots, this one could be trotted out without actual clinical trials.

  5. I am in San Jose; federal court tomorrow on an "officer involved shooting" case. It seems that Google doesn't want to believe I am me if I am in San Jose, so I will be Anonymous while here.

  7. Murkowski’s primary win spurs interest in election reforms, as well as criticism. I have been opposed to jungle primaries, partialy because Chicago's was deliberately designed to make sure the not Republican cli0wn appeared on the final ballot but mostly because I wanted and oppoorunity to have someone who truly represented nt vuews ib that ballot ("Republican clown" because it was adopted after a professional clown won the Republican primary). Alaska's system, with four candidates advancing and ranked choice on the final ballot, may meet those objections.

    2. In California the jungle primary was intended to work against extremist Dem/GOP candidates and third parties. But at least we can vote for a third party candidate in the Presidential elections, and there is no doubt that whoever is the Democratic presidential nominee will win. Things can change, of course, but it sure doesn't look like change will come anytime soon.

  8. “California is expected to put into effect on Thursday its sweeping plan to prohibit the sale of new gasoline-powered cars by 2035, a groundbreaking move that could have major effects on the effort to fight climate change and accelerate a global transition toward electric vehicles,” the New York Times (https://www.nytimes.com/2022/08/24/climate/california-gas-cars-emissions.html) reports.
