  1. Is it just me, or does Alan Jones always look like he's just been startled by something? His eyes look a bit crazed.

    1. Not sure about that, but having been hit with a 4.3 megabucks bill, with punitive damages yet to be decided, sure would get my attention.

  2. Four people struck by lightning near White House

This is really terrible. They are in critical condition.

I have to admit that my first thoughts were those as of a late night pundit when I first read the headline.

    1. It will be so good to have something positive from Congress. If we can secure a strong Senate majority as well as House, we could get all the rest done too.

    2. Yes, it's really good to get something important done, even if it's only a fraction of what se wanted. After the election we will still be limited to reconciliation bills, but no longer dependent on the assent of one or two senators.

  4. Just to give you a smile:

One morning a husband returns to the cabin after several hours of fishing and decides to take a nap.
Although not familiar with the lake, the wife decides to take the boat out, since it is such a beautiful day. She motors out a short distance, anchors, and reads her book.
Along comes a Game Warden in his boat. He pulls up alongside the woman and says," Good morning, Ma'am, what are you doing"?
"Reading a book," she replies, (thinking, "Isn't that obvious"?)
"You're in a Restricted Fishing Area," he informs her.
"I'm sorry, officer, but I'm not fishing, I'm reading."
"Yes, but you have all the equipment. I'll have to write you up a ticket."
"For reading a book"? she replies.
"You're in a Restricted Fishing Area," he informs her again.
"But officer, I'm not fishing, I'm reading."
"Yes, but you have all the equipment. For all I know you could start at any moment. I'll have to write you up a ticket and you'll have to pay a fine."
"If you do that, I'll have to charge you with sexual assault," says the woman.
"But I haven't even touched you," says the Game Warden.
"That's true, but you have all the equipment. For all I know you could start at any moment."
"Have a nice day ma'am," says the Game Warden, and immediately departs.
MORAL: Never argue with a woman who reads. It's likely she can also think.
Sure God created man before woman. But then you always make a rough draft before the final masterpiece!!

    1. Especially when, as far as I could tell at the time, the origin of the problem was that Eisenhower thought he could tell Castro what to do.

    2. I remember the spreads in Live and Look magazines about the revolutionaries while they were still in the Sierra Maestra, and the US government looked favorably on them, knowing how awful the Batista regime and its Mafia buddies were.

    3. In retrospect, the Bay of Pigs invasion and Putin's War have a similarity: the invader (granted the US used proxy troops) in each case thought the defenders would not put up a significant fight. Beware the dog under its own front porch, as the old saying goes.

    2. Aside: It seems almost incomprehensible that the Russian Federation only has about half the population of the Soviet Union (roughly 140 million and 280 million.
