    1. Gosh! Imagine me posting two front pages for the same day. LOL! Thanks, puddle. I deleted the Garden version. The funny thing is that it does have a dusting of snow on it today.

Actually, Millionaires Get a Tax Increase
November 23, 2021 at 11:32 am EST By Taegan Goddard

The Joint Committee on Taxation corrected a report that had suggested the Build Back Better Act would give millionaires a net tax cut in 2022.

In fact, millionaires’ average tax rate goes up by 3.2 percentage points in 2022 and by more in later years.

    1. Yes, please!

Yesterday the Vermont Legislature voted to allow cities and towns to create their own mask mandates. The Governor signed the bill, though he spoke against it ... which will only embolden those who don't want it.

You have to wonder what is really driving DT's party.

    2. Which reminds me of that translation of the Avatamsaka Sutra I ordered a couple of days ago for my education, after thinking about it for fifty-odd years. It is described as the best translation into English; all good. It has been shipped, but without a tracking number. In looking for the tracking number last night I came across a short description of the book-- it runs to 1656 pages! That could be more education than I was looking for. Well, I shall see. I expect it will have almost no end of footnotes, which can be overlooked. It may include one or even two (extreme possibility three) versions in languages other than English. And it includes a translation (and transcript maybe?) of a classical Chinese commentary.

    3. Amazon (from whom I didn't order the book) excerpts show that the book is in a single language, English. Early sutras (English cognate: suture, a thread that holds things together) are so concise as to be cryptic to those unfamiliar with the material. This is not an early Buddhist sutra.

    4. Actually, it seems to be sort of an anthology of sutras. So that will make it more readily digested (as it were). Several from Nagarjuna and Vasubandu, or students of theirs. I tend to favor Nagarjuna, but Vasubandu is cool too. Different ways of looking at the same thing.

  11. Wil and I got Covid tests yesterday. We did so because we attended VT*Grand's play Thursday evening and want to be sure we aren’t bringing Covid to Thanksgiving dinner, especially because our two youngest grands are too young to yet be vaccinated.

  13. So, apparently President Biden is spending Thanksgiving on Nantucket.

So, here's what Stephen Colbert came up with:

There once was a man from Nantucket
Whose poll numbers really did suck it
    At least he is not
    That orange Pol Pot
Who ate all his meals from a bucket

    1. BTW, Wil's sister is Chair of Culture and Tourism on Nantucket. I bet having the President there is wreaking havoc with logistics and getting around. But she's dealing with it well...as she always does.
