    1. Well…almost.

Wil woke at 3am with food poisoning! He is finally sleeping now. He suspects the chocolate milk he got at a restaurant takeout on the way home, because they first said they were out of it, but then a kind person went out back and came out with the last one. Expiration is Aug 22, 2022. But you wonder if it was out of refrigeration too long at some point.
Anyway, we’re supposed to be getting our booster shots today! He will probably need to reschedule because one mustn’t get it while dehydrated! Dang! He’s the one we especially wanted it for!

    2. That's really unfortunate. My sympathies.

    3. I got a bad hot dog once at a drive-in that I frequented. Kept going back and never again had any problems. They had the best french fries in town, and the biggest serving. Probably just an unlucky coincidence, but praying to the porcelain god isn't any fun at all. My sympathies as well.

We went to the neighboring county's covid vaccination clinic because they accepted walk-ins, and it went smoothly, no questions about insurance.

    4. Wil is doing better tonight. Got his booster rescheduled to Wednesday.

So far I have a slight headache and a sore arm. Gosh, any chance I *won't* get the mean fever this time?

  2. https://9to5mac.com/2021/10/04/instagram-facebook-whatsapp-down/

"It’s not just you: Facebook, Instagram, and WhatsApp are all currently down for users around the world. We’re seeing error messages on all three services across iOS applications as well as on the web. Users are being greeted with error messages such as: “Sorry, something went wrong,” “5xx Server Error,” and more."

  3. listener--in reply to your question on the previous thread, the accumulation of smoke (currently reported AQI = 172) seems to be because there is no breeze to push the smoke away from us. We are in a sort of big bathtub closed at the southern end, and the prevailing winds are from the NW. Several days ago a cold front came through and cleared things out, but no wind since then.

    1. I'm wondering if it's connected to the release of the Panama Papers and the whistleblower coming forward?

    2. It is rather an odd coincidence.

    3. From NYT:

"The fallout also cascaded as Facebook is used to sign in to many other apps and services. That led to unexpected domino effects such as people not being able to log into shopping websites or sign into their smart TVs, thermostats and other internet-connected devices. . .

Technology outages are not uncommon, but to have so many apps go dark from the world’s largest social media company at the same time was highly unusual. Facebook’s last significant outage was in 2019, when a technical error affected its sites for 24 hours. . ."

"(Bloomberg) -- Mark Zuckerberg’s personal wealth has fallen by more than $6 billion in a few hours, knocking him down a notch on the list of the world’s richest people, after a whistleblower came forward and outages took Facebook Inc.’s flagship products offline."

    Good.

So what made Facebook go down? Alex Hern explains it all

Confused about what causes Facebook’s global outage? Guardian tech reporter Alex Hern has a brilliantly clear explanation.

The key takeaway: an initial problem was made much more complicated by the fact that “Facebook runs EVERYTHING through Facebook.”

    1. I use Google to log in here and on Forumania. I don't recall ever using either Google or Facebook to log in anywhere else, although I won't swear it has never happened. I generally prefer a password log-in.

  10. Hey, Susan. If you get the book PERIL from the library, be sure to have a brown paper bag handy. You'll need it to make a book cover like we used to make in school ~ to cover up the photos of DT on the cover. WHen you purchase the book you can remove the paper cover while you're reading it, so you don't have to see him. But when you borrow it, the cover is stuck in place.

Can you tell I picked up my On Hold copy today? I'm waiting until I recover from the booster to look at it. Can only handle so much pain at once.

    1. I know what you mean. I took the dust cover off the first Mary Trump book because I can't stand to look at his ugly sneering face, his orange peel skin. His cat pee-colored cotton candy "hair". Gross!
