    1. ^ That was Heather Cox Richardson quoting President Biden!

      She also wrote:
Bannon told his podcast audience that he will have 20,000 “shock troops” ready to take over the country. “We control this country,” he said. “We have to start acting like it.”

    2. Bannon can't even control his personal hygiene! These bloodthirsty idiots all imagine they're Bad Rambo. Nutters, all of them.

    1. Naomi, one of her old friends, and I will go sketching at a pumpkin sales place today. We set out at 10 AM. Later we shall continue harvesting persimmons to share with friends.

  3. It is a gorgeous October day in Vermont, nearly at the peak of foliage season, and I am going to spend the day outside, tweaking the gardens. I have at least 6 plants to better locate, a new Aster to plant, and a Mum to repot. There are also some plants to put to bed for Winter. All in all, I hope to leave the garden healthier and more beautiful. And just wait 'til next year! 😊

  4. The lighthouse out front is the one I mentioned at the end of the land. It has seen better days, to be sure, but we didn't notice whether it is still operational as we had a rough return crossing in the dark. But with navigation systems and all the other lights along that shoreline, I doubt it's a big issue. It's one of the easiest harbours to come into, and definitely well tended...at least since the Kennedys had their compound out there.

    1. I am ambivalent about sanctions, if only because the word used to mean "approval." That said, using the currency to promote and punish behavior is less destructive than densing missiles and carpet bombing the landscape.
However, using the financial system to extract value which has not been earned is immoral. There is a difference between restraining malefactors and extorting profits.

    1. My sense is that Manchin has presidential ambitions and he's hogging the cpotlight to gain recognistion.
Does he relate to the working man? Why would he? He comes from a family of merchants who, in that society, are part of the predatory class.
Small town merchants were no better than the company store.

    2. Manchin may be seeking name recognition, but he may not like the result given what he's recognised for!

  8. Recalling that, in Summer of 2020, Vermont had daily case totals between 0 and 10, with 0 deaths for months, we are chagrined that on Thursday we saw 287 new cases, which was the highest single day total since the start of the pandemic, and the following day we had 283 new cases, which is the second highest daily total. Today we had 244. Plus we had 4 more deaths Thursday, 3 more deaths Friday, and 3 more deaths today! I am furious that Gov. Scott won't reinstate the mask mandate! He's been saying since August that it's going to get better. 😡

Sorry the link is so long. Alan told me how to shorten it, but I forgot already.

From the article:"This continuous and increasing use of violence and threats of violence has become an epidemic across America since 2016 and it’s not because of frustration with the pandemic.

This is what happens in every country when it begins making the transition from being a democratic and generally polite and respectful culture into one that embraces authoritarianism or fascism.

And it always starts from the top down: leadership sets the initial tone in countries, just like in companies and families.

In our case, these people are imitating Donald Trump; our best hope is that President Biden‘s reasonable and compassionate example can help the nation turn against it, although Trump-imitating governors and other elected officials are making it very difficult.

The Republican leadership of Texas, for example, just legally embraced vigilantism against women, and a dozen GOP-controlled states are planning to follow suit this month. This is how it starts."

    1. How to shorten the link: delete the question mark and everything that follows it.

  10. What the Demise of Local News Means [Click] The Atlantic: “In the absence of local coverage, all news becomes national news: Instead of reading about local policy decisions, people read about the blacklisting of Dr. Seuss books. Instead of learning about their own local candidates, they consume angry takes about Marjorie Taylor Greene.” Could be, all right.
