AQI this morning 114 (smoke), reported visibility 3 miles, predicted high temperature only 92, slight chance of rain toward the end of the week, but I wouldn't count on it.
About noon I stepped outside to check the mailbox, and instantly smelled the smoke. No wind to speak of, so wherever the smoke is coming from, it isn't getting blown away.
NYT: What’s the Least Bad Way to Cool the Planet? [Click] Decreasing emissions of carbon dioxide and removing what has accumulated in the air are good long-term approaches, but too slow; geoengineering (specifically stratospheric sulphur dioxide injections) are fast, cheap, and temporary. Under the present circumstances, I agree. But it entails hugely difficult politics.
