My apologies for going AWOL. I saw the stuff about Congress making sausage and figured others would have already seen it, and then it slipped my mind. Various other things intervened, including a trip to the zoo. Photographic evidence sent to listener. Put out the garbage in the morning, did a bit of shopping in the afternoon, and took care of a bit of consulting work in the evening. Vaccination no big deal--slight ache in arm and torpor not clearly distinguishable from my normal sloth the following day, pretty much all gone the day after that.
Thank you, Alan! So glad to know that all is well.
You aren’t required to be here…just seemed unusual, and made us sit up and take notice. Maybe drop a note when you’ll be off for a bit, as Bill does.
Toward that end…I will be headed to Cape Cod and possibly Nantucket today through Sunday. (The latter only if the seas aren’t too rough for the ferry ride.)
Josh Marshall: Something’s Very Wrong with the Times [Click] Specifically, the NYT political writers and editors don’t seem to understand what is happening in Congress. It occurs to my cynical mind that their coverage might be aimed primarily at selling subscriptions. But Mr. Marshall’s take on the sausage-making is very well worth reading, I think.
President Biden told the House Democratic caucus that bipartisan infrastructure package “ain’t going to happen until we reach an agreement on the next piece of legislation,” Punchbowl News reports.
Said Biden to reporters: “It doesn’t matter when. It doesn’t matter whether it’s six minutes, six days or six weeks. We’re going to get it done.”
Tomorrow I'm going to a march for women's rights. My first protest march in two years. I'm so angry I wish I could carry multiple signs, but will have to settle for one two-sided one. Asking for votes:
#1 A live woman has fewer rights to her body than a corpse has. #2 You say (mask graphic) "My Body, My Choice" AND (uterus graphic) "YOUR Body, MY Choice". #3 Women are living beings with a heartbeat. We are not breeding stock. #4 Every pregnancy is caused by a man. Where are *their* laws? And if you have any suggestions of your own I welcome them. I'm also taking along extra "pussy hats" that I knit in case somebody wants one. I freaking HATE repressive Republicans! They've always got their nasty minds in somebody else's bedroom or underwear.
Whoo hoo!!! Blogger finally let me post something!! I’m in Cape Cod and don’t have my computer with me. Blogger has been refusing to let me post from my phone, but seems to have changed its mind. I do not, though, have the keys to the blog this way.
Anyway, we got down here okay! Nantucket tomorrow if the swells from Hurricane Sam aren’t too bad.

Officials narrow cause of death for California family found on hike near Yosemite [Click] How in Heaven’s name they ruled out “carbon dioxide poisoning” beats me, as does anyone entertaining poisoning by blue green algae in the river. If they did not die of carbon monoxide poisoning, then asphyxiation by deoxygenated air seems about the only rational possibility. The fact that they were in a low spot in the general vicinity of wildfires certainly points in that direction. But the newspaper reporters could well have garbled the story.
💝 WELCOME HOME!! 💐 You were greatly missed!!! I was prepping some SnailMail thinking you couldn’t get on until after next weekend. So glad it happened sooner! ✨
I hope the modem was electrocuted in some way less exciting than a bolt of lightning (grin).
I remember the story of a family in my home town who were settling down one evening to watch their new color TV, when a bolt of lightning (very rare thereabouts) hit the antenna and exploded the TV set right in front of them.

I had good intentions of showing up, but as the saying goes, those are what the path to Hell is paved with.
