  1. I fell asleep at my desk, and woke up as a sociology video about Being Old in Rural Japan [Click] was playing. The narrator was speaking German, but with such a soft accent that I wondered for a little bit if it might be Dutch or some other Germanic language, but sure enough it was German. The researchers are from the University of Vienna, so it must be an Austrian accent. Then I remembered Hitler’s personal secretary commenting about when she first met him for her interview, that he had such a sweet, mild Austrian accent.

    1. Yes, Bavarian and Austrian dialects are quite melodic; not harsh and bombastic like the north Germans. Hitler and his misfits got their start in Munich, which prides itself on being non-judgemental. The locals found the upstarts amusing. No doubt, Hitler provided good material for commedians. I am not sure how denigration works into the calculus of the ascent to power.

    1. Sure would be willing to accept that out here! Moderation in all things, right? It looks a little smokier here this morning, but I haven't yet checked the weather report.

    4. I sat up very late last night, watching BostonCBSlocal online and texting with my SIL on Cape Cod. They came very close to being in a Tornado Warning, but the storm lifted more to the north JUST in time. Also, a friend near Philly got stranded at his daughter's house, until the storm passed. Fortunately, both her house and his came through okay. I still need to read reports.

Sure wish we could hear from Catreona. I emailed her again yesterday, but no response. It didn't bounce, at least, so I hope she knows she's in my heart.
