I don't think I have any hostas. My immediate neighbour does, though. They emerge so unsuspectingly in Spring and before you can say "Jack Robinson" they have grown to enormous proportions are take over the area. I rather dislike their gaudiness. So no hostas for me. But I am in awe of them all the same.
Supervisors discuss trucking water from Fort Bragg to Mendocino [Click] I grew up near Fort Bragg, California. Trucking water into Mendocino, or for that matter anywhere in the area, seems nearly unbelievable, but when visiting our old place during high school reunions it was obvious to me that the water table had fallen (presumably due to increasing population). Two streams that used to cross our property had disappeared.
I find it interesting that Republicans seem to be causing the spread of a Covid variant (delta) in the US that selectively kills Republicans, most of whom would have been able to vote for decades had they been vaccinated. But maybe no sacrifice is too great in order to own those dreadful libs. Makes me think of the People's Church and Heaven's Gate.
Ownership is important, but I am not sure they know that it means duty and obligation. In their world it seems to signify abuse and victory over another, a kind of superiority. I'm reminded of toads scrambling over each other to mount the female. English is a very difficult language, especially if it is only spoken. Written English is easier, but not for people who do not comprehend what they read. Non-native speakers get a lot of help. Natives using dialects don't. Why? Maybe it's just because the non-natives are more appreciative of the help.
My kid, the youngest, was found unresponsive yesterday. His girlfriend called 911 who did manage to revive him. He wanted to go home. His girlfriend and the hospital said no, and are waiting for higher med experience to call it. Rray please.
Yes, Alan, Mom was at home. As for peaceful, I'm not so sure. She'd had a rough few days. Finally drifted off early Saturday morning and just never woke up. I suppose at some point normal sleep merged into unconsciousness. By evening her breathing was very labored. (Now I know what the death rattle sounds like.) At one point the quality of her breathing changed and it grew much slower. I told Sis to get Dad. And a few moments after that, her breathing stopped. At least, in those last hours she wasn't in pain; or I hope not. It sure sounded painful, but if she wasn't awake...
After all, the end seemed to come very suddenly. Guess it always does, no matter how long the illness.
Ohhh, Catreona! 😿 Knowing it was coming sometime doesn't really make it easier. My heart goes out to you, and Dad and Sis. 💖 I'm glad that you were on hand and able to make sure Dad got there, and present for the moment. You have been such a faithful and loving daughter, even in the hard times.
I have been reading lately about near death experiences, and there is a lot of reason to suspect that consciousness continues even when the body cannot. Moreover, that even when someone is in pain their consciousness is aware and beyond pain.
May Mom dance from strength to strength with the saints in Light!
The big wildfire north of our place is now 75% contained, and hasn’t increased much in area lately. Only six houses lost and one damaged (in nearly 10,000 acres. Air quality continues to improve here.
Ours was a very busy weekend, with the grands here and a seemingly endless amount of cooking and cleaning required to keep up with their needs. HOW did I do this with FIVE? But they're good kids and we made some very special memories indeed.
So, this evening, Wil and I took it easy and just sat awhile. There I was, sitting on the couch, minding my own business when a HUGE black spider came up the couch and across the cushion running full tilt at me! I let out a long, low moan and darted to the opposite side of the room. My outcry must have sounded significant, because both cats swiftly joined me across the room, not knowing what my concern was, but taking no chances. Ha!
Wil swiftly grabbed a glass and I handed him a card, with which he caught the spider and took it across the driveway to the stone wall. Crisis averted!
What a well-behaved garden! Do you know the hostas are edible? All parts. If you leave the stem, flowers will grow back. Beware of vegans.
ReplyDeleteThanks, Hannah! (Give it a year or two. LOL.)

ReplyDeleteThanks, Alan. This is very good to hear. May the rest soon also be contained...and snuffed.
