She's ADORABLE. I asked her what she wants for her birthday and she replied "PINK!" So I have a twirl dress and a tee shirt and butterfly barrettes to fit the bill. We also have a bunch of "Daniel Tiger" stuff to go with the Daniel Tiger book about moving, because they move to NH next weekend! *sniff!*

  2. "Since 2006, white evangelical Protestants have experienced the most precipitous drop in affiliation, shrinking from 23% of Americans in 2006 to 14% in 2020."

    1. An interesting read; much more to it than just the lede.

    2. I didn't relate to this. At first I thought it was a matter of geography (maybe in part) but then decided it was mostly generational. The article traces the split back to "fudamentalists" vs. "modernists" in the early 20th century, but in the 1940s and 50s it was much more a spectrum than a divide. And the Southern Baptist Convention was intensely congregational; each church was its own thing. I think First Baptist would be considered Mainstream by today's standards; Southside Baptist was perhaps more evangelical, at least in emphasizing "come to Jesus." Olive Street Missionary Baptist was definitely evangelical, but that was an entirely different denomination. (I was surprised to discover that in Northern cities most Missionary Baptist churches were predominantly Black.) There was, however, one thing on which Southern Baptists rigorously agreed: Religion and politics don't mix.

  3. listener--I see that the air quality index in your area is predicted to be 46 tomorrow/today/Friday. Prediction for here is about the same, 49. I'm still amazed by the smoke you got; glad it blew away.

    1. Thanks. We are VERY pleased! And it seems to have largely taken the humidity with it. This week seems to be offering Summer days that are "a string of pearls."

    1. Interesting that of the 535 arrested, 188 have to undergo competency assessments because they may be mentally ill. That's 35% of arrested insurrectionists.

    2. I agree that 35% seems a rather low proportion [he ducks].

  5. Last Summer, Vermont's daily Covid cases were in the single digits. This year, despite more than 77% of the State's eligible residents being fully vaccinated, we are seeing double digits. We're up to 16, 22, 34 per day. But last I knew, we had just one person in hospital (in ICU).

    1. Ah, today's numbers are up. 28 new cases, 3 now in hospital (1 in ICU).

One death in the past month, so our death rate is down to 1%.
Still, our 7-day positivity rate was at .5% a few weeks ago and is currently at 1.4%!

    1. Any chance it could drive Fox News off the air? Though, on second thought, that might not be a good thing. Seems they have already lost a not inconsiderable number of viewers to more radically right wing outlets. If they vanished altogether, said radical outlets would doubtless rush in to fill the vacuum. It's a pretty sad day when Fox News looks preferable to the alternatives!

    1. Your link is wonky, Cat; if This [Click] isn't quite right, it seems close. The fool is trying to talk his way out of what he was saying. And he found a physician who was willing to prescribe ivermectin for him and was "taking vitamin D like crazy." Ivermectin is used for treating various kinds of parasites--principally worms. And since vitamin D is fat-soluble, too much is poisonous. And now the fool is claiming he was never anti-vaccination.

  13. Yep, the next Coronavirus surge is under way in Fresno County [Click] Finally some credible statistics. Reported cases have tripled in two weeks; hospitalizations are lagging, as one would expect. Vaccinations remain stagnant. Masking guidelines are unenforceable.

    2. We do not anticipate doing without masks in public any time soon, and we do not attend public gatherings, restaurants or saloons. I will be as careful as possible when attending my upcoming drawing class. Maybe I will don a new disposable mask for each meeting. I have been thinking about asking the instructor if he will be opening the windows.
