Well, I finally made it to the last thread and left some messages.
The three little grands were a heap of fun this weekend, but I have to say I wasn't quite up to the mission. Saturday night I got a viral sore throat that lasted 24 hours presaging a good old fashioned cold. Sigh. Since I have worn a mask everywhere except when with family, I am pretty sure I picked it up from Youngest or VT*Grandson(8). So I wasn't as cheerful as would have been useful, and I kinda lost it a few times (their discipline needs tweaking); lots of understandable stress around their upcoming move. But we did all have a good time anyway. I had a morning meeting (via Zoom) that ran way overtime. So I begged off the group meeting (also by Zoom), to prepare for the Vet visit. That went really well, at least. But tonight I am exhausted AND I'm not sure I can sleep. Wish me luck. Heh.
PS: Ironic that we can't yet have the long-awaited overnight with VT*Grand(13) because I got sick taking care of 3 other grands. That visit was supposed to be Tuesday-Wednesday. But we'll get there yet.
You may have a dose of acetaminophen. I find that relieves lots of little aches and pains that don't amount to much but are just irritating enough to keep me awake. And I just added two or three comments to the previous thread.
Well, I could have a dose of acetaminophen, but it has never had the least affect on me. Instead, I chose Advil Cold and Sinus. Or I could take Excedrin Migraine instead. That stuff is magic.
A New Theory of Western Civilization [Click] An interesting idea, which probably shouldn’t be dismissed out of hand. Might also explain the areas historically dominated by Orthodoxy lagging behind those historically dominated by the RC Church.
Well, it's all from the male perspective. From my, female, perspective, culture is coercive and males are fixated on substituting power for reproductive success.
100% of Vermonters age 70-74 are fully vaccinated 90% of Vermonters 65 and older are fully vaccinated 81.3% of eligible Vermonters have received at least one vaccine dose 71.8% of ALL Vermonters have received at least one vaccine dose 62.9% of ALL Vermonters are fully vaccinated
In each of these areas, Vermont is first in the nation Vermont is also second in the world for vaccine rate, behind only Malta.
Kinda feeling proud of my fellow Vermonters and so glad we had the sense to move here and stay...!
Senate Republicans Block Voting Rights Bill [Click] On a 50:50 vote. Is this moving along according to Manchin’s and Biden’s plan? Do everything possible to gain bipartisan consensus, and if the Republicans ALL vote against it, then support “strengthening” the filibuster by changing the cloture rule to require 41 votes to continue debate rather than 60 to stop it?
There has been debate about whether it should take 40 or 41 votes to stop debate (= continue filibuster), but Manchin has said he favors 41. And if 40 or 41 votes are required to continue debate, the party in favor of continuation will have to have that many senators on hand and ready to vote 24/7. Given that many of the senators are elderly [Latin "senex" = "old man"], they may not be able to sleep on cots in the Senate chamber in case of a vote for more than a few days.
Schumer vows next steps after 'ridiculous,' 'awful' GOP election bill filibuster [Click] Some interesting quotations, but this is from “The Hill,” so one can’t expect first rate reporting; it doesn’t even mention the long-suggested alteration of the cloture rule to require 40 (or 41) votes to continue rather than 60 to cut off debate.
That change is precisely what I favor. I don't want to get rid of the filibuster entirely, but I think it should be difficult enough that it is used only for what the minority party consideres the most essential bills.
Reasonable people could live with it, and it would facilitate the functioning of the Senate, I think. That is what happened when the House got rid of its equivalent of the filibuster--the disappearing quorum.

Be sure to take Advil with food.

DeleteI do hope so, Alan. I hope it will change to 41 votes. This system is insane.
DeleteChanging the cloture rule requires only 50 votes plus one from the VP. Maybe fewer if not all senators are present (I don't know about that).
