    1. Impressive totals. Glad I contributed to the first. Can't contribute to everything though, unfortunately.

    2. P.S. Fourteen million plus! That's a lot of money. Certainly ought to send a message to somebody.

    3. As I recall, Mr. Floyd's family has set up a foundation to manage the money for civic good. I don't know if professional management has been set up for his little girl's fund, but expect it. I forget who it is, but a celebrity who evidently knows how to handle money stepped in to help with Tybre's college fund. With reasonable investment yields he should be able to pay full freight at Fisk (John Lewis' alma mater).

    2. Do I take it from your P.S. he's not going to be disciplined for misrepresentation?

    3. I gather just public rebuke.

    4. It was an understandable mistake. When you hear about a percentage increase or decrease it is often difficult to see what that is a percentage of. Still, he should have been more careful when speaking to a national audience. (Note that he explicitly admitted the mistake.)

  3. This morning there was considerably more blue sky than yesterday; to the north we could see the color of the trees across the river, and clearly see the power line pylons beyond that. Weather report visibility three miles, AQI 170. Now (at noon) the view is fading out a bit, and the blue sky has largely disappeared. AQI 155, alleged visibility still three miles.

    1. I know it. I'm still waiting for that, especially since the Friendly's around the corner closed, so there's noplace around here to grab a quick bite, and I love tacos!

    2. I wonder if the taco trucks are going to have a get out the vote campaign again this year; they ought to.

  6. OHIO: As of Tuesday afternoon, there have been at least 116,495 confirmed or probable cases in the state, 3,996 deaths, and 12,956 hospitalizations, according to the Ohio Department of Health.

Oleandrin: Trump allies pitch [patented] extract from poisonous plant to fight Covid [Click] “Experts raise concern over compound that has not been proven safe but could reach public as dietary supplement.” But what is to stop people from consuming oleander flowers or tea made from the leaves?

    1. And let us not forget oleander seeds, in season. So far as I know, all parts of the plant are poisonous, and more so than one might suspect.

    2. Well, look at it this way. If Covid doesn't kill off Trump supporters, oleander will. And we'll have Trump to thank either way.

  9. Here's a link to a discussion that ran live earlier this afternoon. I only listened to part of it, but it seemed to me Hawkins comported himself well. Didn't have much use for the girl - a case of many words and few to the point. As I think of it, though, the problem may be precisely that she is a girl, much younger than the other participants. She probably can't remember a time before the Democratic Party was corporate owned. Anyhow, for anyone who'd like to listen, here it is:

    2. I think Howie has a lot of experience as a public speaker; he can probably do it on autopilot. Jill Stein improved significantly as a public speaker between her 2012 and 2016 campaigns, although (in my opinion) she went rather off the deep end in '16.

Since I wrote in Howard Dean in 2004, I have voted for female presidential candidates in each subsequent election. I figure it's about time to vote for a guy, to show that I'm not sexist.

Yes, Alan, you ought to vote for a male occasionally, you dirty old sexist, you!

    4. I finally got around to listening to the Book TV interview. After samples of the others, I just skipped through to the places where Howie spoke. Pretty damned good, say I. Wow, what would it be like to have a labor hall in each town where people would meet regularly to debate and decide on things from the sublocal to the national?

  11. Falwell Owed $10.5 Million over the next two years by Liberty University [Click] Let’s see, that’s roughly five million per year. Total enrollment, on campus and online, is about 110,000, say 100,000. $5 million divided by 100,000 = $50 per student per year. Easy-peasy! If all the students go elsewhere, the board can probably raffle off a few buildings.

  12. Cat--reply above--I watched the Book TV video and left a comment there. If anybody asks why I am voting for Howie rather than Biden, I will point out to them that history shows whomever I vote for is doomed; do they really want me to pickle Biden's last chance?
