My thermostat seems to still be set for where I grew up, where the current temperature is 65F; but that's too cool for my better half. One learns to adjust; but air conditioning is damned close to a necessity hereabouts. In the oldest part of town you can still see the old (and generally converted) sleeping porches on houses here and there. Typically, when we have a hot day here, the night may be warm, but not cold. That is quite unlike Santa Rosa, in the northern SF Bay Area, where I lived off and on for six or seven years; it can get just as hot as Fresno on a summer day, but around sundown the temperature plunges as fog flows in from the coast and it turns downright cold. The nicest weather of any place I have ever lived was in Santa Cruz, on the coast south of San Francisco, at the north end of Monterey Bay; but there were remarkable variations in microclimates. The actual climate could change in a distance of two blocks.
This week in Chicago it has been mid-90s with humidity in the 40-50% range. That would have been typical summer weather where I grew up in Arkansas. But tomorrow's predicted high is 80F. Never happen in Arkansas.
And I will comment that humidity makes a huge difference. I've attended a couple of conventions in Phoenix. The first was during a cool spell: temps in the mid-90s. Very pleasant. The other had highs in the 105-110 range. I mostly hugged the shade when I was outside (yes, shade also makes a difference, as I learned in Arkansas), but I was still up for strolling the better part of a mile to see what was to be seen.
OHIO: As of Friday afternoon, there have been at least 120,124 confirmed or probable cases in the state, 4,105 deaths, and 13,221 hospitalizations, according to the Ohio Department of Health.
“But so I think, I think it would be, I think it would be very, very, I think we’d have a very, very solid, we would continue what we’re doing, we’d solidify what we’ve done, and we have other things on our plate we want to get done.”

Well, and I should imagine, cashing in on the market while it's hot. Were Trump to lose the election, the bottom would fall out. So maybe everyone rushing to publish reckons he's gonna lose?
I didn't watch either the DNC or the RNC (I never have, and see no reason to change now), but there seem to be more and more reports that the Dems put on a program far better suited to TV than did the Trumpets.
Air quality continues to improve here, high temperatures projected to be just below or just above 100F for the next ten days.
ReplyDeleteGlad your air quality is improving, but that's still too derned hot for me!

DeleteThat is a very reasonable motivating factor, Cat. Sometimes we try to make things more complicated than they likely are. Back to Occam's Razor!

ReplyDeleteI figure that in a couple more weeks the reports of COVID-19 infections acquired at the RNC should start ticking up noticeably.
DeleteI Expect so. Howie said few people were wearing masks. I'd say 'unbelievable,' except what actually surprises me is that *anyone* was wearing a mask.
