Press Release: National Association of Medical Examiners (NAME) Regarding the autopsy report: Mr.George Floyd (Minneapolis Medical Examiner report) From: Sally S. Aiken, MD 2020 President James R. Gill, MD 2020 Vice President National Association of Medical Examiners (NAME)
The independent autopsy is the one done by the medical examiner who, unlike private pathologists, do not have an incentive to come up with a certain view. The Hennepin County (Minneapolis) Medical Examiner’s Office is an independent county office that works separately from law enforcement agencies, and prosecutors. The office is fully accredited by the National Association of Medical Examiners(NAME), and employs board-certified forensic pathologists. The Chief Medical Examiner in Minneapolis, Dr. Andrew Baker, is one of the most highly regarded and esteemed Forensic Pathologists in the United States. Dr. Baker has received several awards, published numerous academic articles, and has lectured nationally and internationally about forensic pathology. He is a Past-President of NAME and known for his expertise and integrity. The National Association of Medical Examiners has published a position paper on Deaths in Custody (available on the NAME websitehttps://name.memberclicks.net/assets/docs/2e14b3c6-6a0d-4bd3-bec9-fc6238672cba.pdf). The paper includes recommendations on the investigation, autopsy, and certification of deaths that occurunder these circumstances. The Hennepin County (Minneapolis) Medical Examiner’s Office followed these carefully constructed recommendations in the autopsy performed on Mr.George Floyd. The Minneapolis Medical Examiner’s Office helped author this paper. Though the public may have concerns about the inclusion of underlying natural diseases, and drug intoxication as “contributing to death” on Mr. Floyd’s death certificate, this is usual practice for Medical Examiners. Death is a complex process and often occurs with multiple interacting contributing causes including physiologic stress brought about by physical altercations. Therefore, listing all provides a more comprehensive statement of the cause of death. The “manner of death was certified as “homicide”. Homicide (as a manner of death on the death certificate) is a statistical category for this public health document. In the medical examiner setting, a homicide is defined as death “at the hand of another”. It is not synonymous with “murder” which is a legal term. It is ultimately up to the legal system to determine how this death is criminally classified under Minnesota Law.

OHIO: As of Thursday afternoon, there have been at least 37,282 confirmed or probable cases in the state, 2,339 deaths, and 6,312 hospitalizations, according to the Ohio Department of Health.
I don't know if it's a question of education or of psychological testing or what, but demonstrably too many police officers do not see civilians as human beings just like themselves deserving, as they themselves are, of being treated with decency and dignity and fair play.
On a frivolous note: Earlier this week Facebook awarded me my badge as one of Neil Sedaka's top fans. Silly though it is, that little milestone gave me a smile. I watch, react to and comment on his mini concert every day, which is why it took less time than to get the badge for Engelbert.
