Trump Taken to Underground Bunker During Protests [Click] “rattled mood in the White House.” I like it. It seems that the protestors across the street could be heard inside The People’s house.

Trump’s advisors don’t know what to do. [Click] That makes them a perfect match for their boss, no?

    1. He’s going to become more paranoid. But he is incapable of giving in. He may well go seriously ballistic. Would that there were some way for him to decide he doesn’t want the job anymore and bow out.

    2. It seems about time that some foreign government should offer him political asylum, but I am pretty sure he wouldn't accept it.

  2. Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, writing at the Los Angeles Times:

“Yes, protests often are used as an excuse for some to take advantage, just as when fans celebrating a hometown sports team championship burn cars and destroy storefronts. I don’t want to see stores looted or even buildings burn. But African Americans have been living in a burning building for many years, choking on the smoke as the flames burn closer and closer. Racism in America is like dust in the air. It seems invisible — even if you’re choking on it — until you let the sun in. Then you see it’s everywhere. As long as we keep shining that light, we have a chance of cleaning it wherever it lands. But we have to stay vigilant, because it’s always still in the air.”

  3. Rev. William Barber: America must listen to its wounds. They will tell us where to look for hope [Click] I have felt for several years that the next President needs to have Rev. Barber in his kitchen cabinet. My mind has not changed.

  4. When I think of Trump cowering in the bunker of The People’s House and threatening to use “the most vicious dogs, and most ominous weapons” against protestors, I cannot help but be reminded of that other Bloody Sunday in 1905. [Click] That didn’t work out well for Nicholas II.

    1. Granted that Nicholas was (controversially) promoted to sainthood, [Click] that seems a rather poor bargain for him.

    1. Or maybe the real fear is that certain base domestic actors won't be able to.

  9. I think it was Thursday and Friday that there were three or four small demonstrations (maybe 50-75 people) in Fresno protesting the murder of George Floyd. Saturday there was a better organized demonstration at City Hall, estimated in the newspaper at more than 2,000 people. Last night there was another demonstration, estimated by the newspaper to have more than 3,000 people. All were peaceful. Based on previous experience, I suspect that the newspaper estimates of attendance may have been considerable underestimates.

  11. Hi everybody. Sorry to have been away for so long. I haven't been feeling very sociable. Doing a great deal of reading, racing through rereads and some first-time reads of Anne McCaffrey. It doesn't help the depression all that much.

Depression is not easy. It's so good that you are a reader, to pull you through it by taking you good places.

  13. Today, Vermont Governor Phil Scott said that Minneapolis police officers should face murder charges. It was a pretty dang great speech, especially when you consider that Gov. Scott is a Republican.

  15. June one, and the heat's on and turned up. I'm cold cold cold.

    1. For the last couple days of May and forecast through the first few days of June lows here in the mid 40s. They bounce back fairly quickly, so it's only cold for a few hours and the heat hasn't come on that I know of. Nothing that good winter covers can't remedy. Sorry it's colder where you are, Puddle! ♥

  16. America Has No President [Click] The title instantly called to mind a common Russian reaction to their Bloody Sunday (1905): [Click] The killing of people, many of whom had seen the Tsar as their "Little Father", resulted in a surge of bitterness towards Nicholas and his autocratic rule. A widely quoted reaction was "we no longer have a Tsar.”
