  1. Let's start this late day thread by bringing forward two of Alan's links from today's regular thread!

  2. With a little luck, Baby*Grand will be baptised on Sunday. It has long been planned that she would be "splashed" on the third Sunday of Advent, known as Rose Sunday, when the church colours lighten from somber purple to rose, which signifies joy.
This past week, however, PhD*Son and daughters have come down with Influenza B! And, yes, they all had the flu shot. As they all live in the same household with Baby*Grand and her big brother and Mom (aka Daughter), it remains to be seen whether the key players for Sunday will remain well. Interestingly, the other family member who has not succumbed is PhD*Son's spouse, who is a RN who works now in the NICU...!
As Gramie (that's me) and Grandad are to read the lessons, we are going to put on some armour and drive to Maine on Saturday and back on Sunday, going only to a restaurant and the church, but not the house of dreaded illness.

Send us all good luck and blessings!!! Yikes!

    1. Here's hoping no one gets unnecessary stimulation of their immune system, listener.

I rather miss not working in the small rural hospital and being able to see the onset and passing of the flu season. It still boggles me how quick and easy it is now to positively identify influenza, and even whether it is A or B. A swab and 15 minutes if other things don't interfere. That's a real advance--like helicobacter pylori testing, and (within my recollection albeit not within my working lifetime) rapid pregnancy tests without rabbits or frogs.

    2. Very interesting perspective, Alan! I am grateful no rabbits or frogs have to die these days. And it sure helps keep the spread of illness down to have it identified quickly. People can know to take measures to get themselves out of circulation and protect family members. Of course, if everyone who feels ill would stay home, that would work too.

  3. Looks like Johnson has swept to a huge victory. I would say "poor UK" except they brought it on themselves.

    2. I can't help thinking that every person in the UK didn't bring it on themselves. My heart goes out to all the people who will be hurt by the coming decisions.
