  1. Jared Kushner’s Company Curiously Raked in $90 Million Since He Joined the White House

“The real estate company Cadre, owned by Kushner, his brother, Joshua, and a friend, has taken in $90 million in investments from Saudi Arabia and a "Goldman Sachs entity" in the Cayman Islands. Cadre is also one of the properties that Kushner initially forgot to put on his security-clearance application when he joined the Trump administration.”

  2. It's about time for a political cartoonist to draw the SS Trumpworld on fire and capsizing at the dock while a parade of rats flees down the hawser. Sample headlines:

    House Democrats Tap Impeachment Gusher
Trump’s Syria Mess Playing Out In Real Time

One thing that seems unusual (but not unprecedented this time is that (at least for the moment) foreign affairs seems likely to be a factor in the presidential race. I am reminded of an observation someone made early in the present administration--that some sort of emergency/crisis is nearly certain during any presidency, and this administration was completely unprepared for it.

    1. Another thought occurred to me just now; maybe it's time for a remake of that "3AM phone call" ad. Only the President would be awake and ranting on Twitter.

  5. Thanks for the up-top info, listener. I hadn't thought of going to the NPR web site to listen. Or, come to think of it, I can get NPR on the radio.

  6. So, who is watching the debate?

Bernie is doing really well! He's robust and making good points. Warren is pretty much holding her own, though the weaker candidates have been beating on her. Biden seems too quiet.

    1. I'm listening,as I suggested. I basically agree with your assessment, although I really wish Warren would be frank about the relation between taxes and costs in connection with Medicare for All.

And I just noticed that Biden said Iraq when he meant Syria.

    2. He did. Then he was speaking about Putin and gestured toward Bernie. And Bernie grinned and said, "Great. Now I'm Putin." He got a laugh!

    3. I've been more impressed by Steyer than I expected to be.

    4. I agree that Warren needs to be more open about the costs, like Bernie is. But I also think she might not want to kowtow to the request on the spot. But if she would make a statement, like Bernie has, it would help.

  7. Not me; just checking in here and there. Haven't found a satisfactory live blog yet. One (all but a teaser behind a paywall) is consistent with your view, listener.

    1. The weaker candidates are saying that Warren doesn't understand how average and poor people live and that her ideas are punitive. Huh? I guess it's good that they see her as that powerful? LOL!

    2. Good for Cory Booker for pointing out that we have one shot to defeat DT and the Dem candidates shouldn't be tearing each other down.

    3. Harris is doing pretty well too. Castro just gave a sound bite, that will be repeated, when he said to think of the ISIS people running out of prison to freedom and set that image against DT locking up children at the border.

  8. Biden continues to fumble his lines. He has, though, been more forceful in the second hour, like he was told he needs to be, and he made some good points on foreign policy.

  9. Somehow they are giving more time to Buttigieg and O'Rourke than seems fair. Maybe it will even out as they proceed.

  10. Booker made the excellent point that "we are surrendering our freedoms to fear" in this country.

  11. Warren sums up well, and has a tendency to bring together what others have pointed out and take it a tad further.

  12. Biden made the good point that we already had firearm registration and laws that got guns off the streets, but then the gun manufacturers got an exemption from prosecution.

  13. Warren nailed it when she described that Dems will win not when they offer business as usual, but when they stop "nibbling around the edges of the issues," work hard and get things done.

  14. Steyer made a good point that, in order to beat the Republicans, we need to not only say what's wrong and make plans but also encourage entrepreneurship and small business.

    1. Bill, I didn't see your earlier note about Steyer until after I wrote the note above. I agree with you.

    2. Sounds like the New Deal to me. Except the New Deal emphasized trust busting to protect small business and innovation.

  15. Harris challenged Warren to say that DT's Twitter account should be shut down. Warren wouldn't agree to it. I'm not sure why, really. But I think she just doesn't allow people to corner her, and that's not altogether a bad thing.

  16. Tonight I figured out what bugs me when I listen to Amy Klobuchar. It's that she seems to take offense too easily and goes on the defensive. That would never work against DT. Oy oy!

    1. By sharp contrast, Warren wouldn't take the bait.

  17. Bernie is doing GREAT tonight! He is clearly vigorous and has been well spoken and to the point. Impressive!

  18. Warren and Booker would be an interesting combination. They both didn't "throw elbows" at the others on the stage.

  19. Shut down his account? I thought the rule was when your enemy is digging themselves into a hole, you don't stop them.

  20. She also sounds like she'd is about to burst into tears.

    1. I wondered that and thought her eyes looked a little red, so I listened closely. I think she was just fired up and her passion comes out in a slightly wavering voice. The buzz is that she didn't back down when Klobuchar and others challenged her because she didn't want to give a sound bite to the Republicans.

  21. Interesting that the moderators had Biden speak last. Was that their decision or the decision of the DNC? I don't think he earned that tonight. I think Warren or Bernie should have had that spot.

  22. CNN commentator said that Bernie did GREAT tonight and added that Bernie was more coherent than Biden even though he'd had a heart attack two weeks ago and is two years older. LOL!

  23. Bernie has a rally this weekend in Queens and mentioned he'll have a Special Guest. Turns out his Special Guest is AOC, and she's going to endorse him!! (She didn't last time, so that's interesting!)

    1. Bet we hear from DT about that! He-he-he and more laughter still.

    2. We sure will because Reps Tlaib and Omar are also going to be there and are also endorsing Bernie!
That's sure to spark some cruel tweets.
