  1. Solstice, Meteors and Full Moon. While I never relish a full moon while trying to spot meteors, it won’t much matter in Vermont, as we are having a deluge of rain with strong winds. I’ll be home for Solstice, LOL!

  2. Last night, longest night of the year and I hardly got a bit of sleep. Just before midnight, there were curious orange flashes out the front window, and got buzzing, too. Beau was barking up a storm, so I let him out, and just as his feet hit the porch, black. Stumbled back in through the black, found the LED camp light Cooter gave me for my birthday, unhooked the computer, hooked the line to the old phone, called Mon Power. The line was bad, and the phone is dying, but managed to work through what was happening, with lots of repetition. Scheduled repair? 3 a.m.

Sat for a while in the dark, let the boy in and went up to bed. It was about 1:30. Fell asleep. a bit after two, dog started on a big bark. Lights on the road, sound of big engines. I got up, dressed, and we went down. Not much. A few trips up and down the road and they left. I sat in the long dark for a while, and went to back up to bed at three-thirty.

Four-thirty, dog barks, trucks come back, I come down. Trucks are bigger. Louder. Run up and down road, bridge is flooding, but not by much. After and hour or so, there's much buzzing and an orange flash at the pole, and the lights come on for the merest second. Then black again. More up/down. They sit at my pole for a very long time (since it's happened twice before, I imagine them replacing the transformer "can"). . . .

They drive away, stopping at the pole on the main road, and, at quarter to six, the lights all come on. I reboot the computer, and finish the Downton episode.

And that's how I spent my Solstice Eve. It was *truly* the longest night of the year.

  3. I feel ya, puddle. Last night I got ZERO sleep. So tired of this. Here, in my role of ancient juvenile delinquent let me share this with all of you. It's not my story, but who cares?

So I'm at Wal-mart buying a bag of dog food for my dog. While in the check-out line, a woman behind me asked if I had a dog. Why else would I be buying dog food, RIGHT??? So on impulse I told her that no, I didn't have a dog, I was starting the Dog food Diet again, and that I probably shouldn't because I ended up in the hospital the last time, but that I'd lost 50 pounds before I awakened in intensive care with tubes coming out of most of my orifices and IVs in both arms. I told her that it was essentially a Perfect Diet and all you do is load your pockets with food Nuggets and simply eat one or two every time you feel hungry. The food is nutritionally complete so it works well and I was going to try it again. (I have to mention here that practically everyone in line was now enthralled with my story.) Horrified, she asked if I ended up in intensive care because the dog food poisoned me. I told her no, I stepped off a curb to sniff a poodle's butt and a car hit me. I thought the guy behind her was going to have a heart attack he was laughing so hard!

  4. Oh, Lord--that's beautiful, Susan! And thanks for the field report on Sherrod Brown. It sets me to pondering a Warren/Brown ticket...

I was absent on account of taking the backup hard drive (which is also the WiFi router to the computer shop to help with restoring our desktop computer. No router meant no WiFi meant no connection for our laptop and iPad. Now all hooked back up, the desktop computer has a new operating system, all data saved, but some relatively minor things to take care of in the way of programs. Being away from the news was restful.
